MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
Well I guess this is our first custom rom for our Hero
Below is the info from MoDaCo's site This ROM is based on the original shipping ROM release series (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is packaged as a core version with optional add on packs. Included in the 'core' - Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK - A2SD included (fully automatic - thanks cyanogen!) - create a EXT2 partition as your second partition to use. dalvik-cache remains on device. - Added Jbed Java - Added Dropbear SSH running by default, check 'About' screen for password (port 2222). You can now remove this by running /system/bin/removedropbear.sh - Added Notes app from Dragon - Added Spare Parts (run it and switch the 2 animation types to 'fast' for an even better experience!) - Added android-wifi-tether 1.60 pre3 (props to the developer, this is a great app!) - Added WiFi Status indicator, with kind permission of Andrew Schwimmer - Added busybox 1.15.2 - tweaked such that 'get information' in Swapper now works as desired - Added nano 2.09 - text editor for use in shell mode - Added parted and sqlite tools - Added terminfo and settings to boot.img to allow nano etc. use - Added files required for Debian linux including loxley's updated bootdeb script - Moved Quickoffice to data partition to allow easy uninstall - Moved Google Maps and Google Voice Search to data partition to allow easy update - Deleted 'Learn More' application - Silenced boot sound (it's still there and can be reactivated with a file edit) - You can now check your MoDaCo Custom ROM (MCR) version from the about menu Included in main 'enhanced' add on pack - Added Business Card Scanner - Added 'Plurk' client - Added WAP browser Other optional add on packs (apply as normal update zips) - 'WaveSecure' add on pack (puts Wavesecure in ROM - it is no longer in core) - 'Boot Sounds' add on pack (restores boot sounds) - 'Hebrew Fonts' add on pack (installs hebrew fonts) ---------- Let the games begin! |
Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
Wow that was fast. Is there a guide anywhere how to root your hero. I dont have one yet but am curious if there is a step by step guide like when we unlocked our othere phones and guides like flashing.

This is a decent guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581577 for now.. It sure is a process. But worth it.

For all those looking for wireless tether, this is the Rom for u. I used it and its flawless... |
Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
I don't know if it's just the ROM or the fact that I removed some of sprints bloatware but i'm most def noticing a difference in speed. And it's NOT placebo. Just the transition from portrait to landscape is like a half second faster.
I'm pretty sure that once I format my SD card and install apps2sd that it'll probably run even better! |

I will try again at lunch I still have the rom. Force close issues were with Google apps, maps, and android phone. No one had this? Does this rom include the Google apps like gmail, n maps that cyanogen had 2 remove? |

If you want a COMPLETE clean install then backup all your apps and contacts (if you don't have it synced with google or exchange) and then do a clean wipe and install the custom ROM. Then you can just reinstall all your apps and resync your contacts back to your phone. However you will loose all your phone settings and dictionary words. This is the reason why I just flashed Modaco's ROM over my backup. I had actually done a complete wipe then installed the ROM cuz I thought that's what fixed my wifi tether issue (it still didn't work after I flashed Modaco's ROM) and it did but I lost all my settings and dictionary. So I flashed my backup, uninstalled wifi tether, then flashed Modaco's ROM and the wifi started working fine. Turns out, at least for me, having wifi tethering already installed prior to flashing the custom ROM somehow did not allow it to work. |

Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
so, any noticeable differences between this and stock besides wifitether??? Any noticeable speed improvements??
IMO, im good with stock till we get an upgrade like 1.6, 2.0, or a MotoBLUR rom to test out the new UI Props to the chef for already hooking up us affected by ROM withdrawal lol |

Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
I guess I'm going to try my first root ever on my Hero. always wanted to root on WM but never had the guts to do it. And that phone REALLY needed it. Basically, I'd like app2sd and it to run a little faster. I'm sure I'll have some questions soon...
Question 1: I'm confused with Nandroid backup. Do I root first, then run Nandroid? So rooting just opens up my phone basically, doesn't actually change anything except the "ability to change" I feel like I want to backup BEFORE I start messing with things.... |
Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
I thought that he left it out of his core rom and that it's optional to install it as a cab of sort...

Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
This is the correct way to flash the recovery..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...2&postcount=18 Most instructions I found were missing the part in red.. which really had me stumped on why it wasnt working.. especially a noob like me with android, but im starting to understand better now. $ adb shell $ cd /sdcard/ $ su # flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img |
Re: MoDaCo Custom Hero ROM for the CDMA Hero
Just to let people know, I've tried flashing twice, once with the extras, once without. MoDaCo's ROM complete breaks HTC's Social Networking apps, and they deleted Peep for some reason. So no more Twitter (at least not HTC integrated)

I'm in the process of finishing up my second FULLY clean wipe install of his ROM. I don't use the twitter stuff but I DO use Facebook and when I had the core 1.1 installed it seemed to work fine although I didn't fully test it. Right now i'm putting my settings and stuff back from mybackup app. Once that is done I'll test it out some more. |

SO RIGHT. Had to look through 14 pages after the initial directions to find that out. Was scared I busted my phone. Not sure why he never fixed that in the first post. I'm rooted, recovered, nandroided... now to try modaco's rom. QUESTION 1 about ROM. on the addon packs that he has listed, do you just add those onto the core? just run that as a backup restore as well? (after you restored the core obviously?) QUESTION 2 once I flash a ROM, I will have to reinstall all apps and settings right? is there a way to keep them both? |
