Stock gmail application not showing html images?

All right here's the issue. I am currently using the actual gmail application on my phone, not the mail application. I switched to the gmail app because it allows me to mark email as spam directly from the application. The problem is that some emails I have been receiving will not display images embedded in them. Only on certain emails do I get the option to download or show images. I would like to keep using the gmail app, but if it will not reliably show images in email maybe I will have to go back to the mail app. Anyone got any ideas?
