I'd assumed it was a deeper integration based on an interview I'd read somewhere. Maybe on Engadget. The HTC rep was asked about it and he/she responded that this wasn't simply a skin over Android. That they'd put a lot of work into it. That still may be true (as I mentioned above), but it still is surprising that turning Sense on and off is as easy as it is.

I think the messaging app and the gmail/email app is still HTC. You don't go back to the stock android stuff. So it's "slightly" deeper than a re-skin.

Re: Switch to Stock Vanilla Android on the Hero

Just realized that if you follow the directions to switch but don't check the default box, you can choose which you want to use every time you boot the phone up. Nice option if you wanted to use both (tho again I have no idea what the benefit of doing so would be lol)

***Edit= I just found out that if you don't select to make one default it will ask you to select which home you want every time you press the home button.

I find it odd that the HTC widgets don't work. Any reason why they shouldn't work? Did HTC somehow create a widget that ONLY works with Sense UI?

That is interesting especially since the dialer, messaging and everything else seems to work fine.

How bout the stock android apps? like music, pictures app, standard dialer, sms, default browser, contacts etc. Do they reappear when you disable sense or do we still have only the htc versions?

Re: Switch to Stock Vanilla Android on the Hero

ok im happy again.... looks like the mask was only the home screen (very understandable actually) cuz when i tried this out i was looking for the vanilla Android apps since i had a nervous breakdown thinking there were two versions of most apps... one Android standard, and one HTC. But seems like the standard Android ones are nowhere to be found even with sense off... which makes me still believe that HTC redesigned the standard ones (yayyy open source!!!) to make the ones we have now rather than write these from scratch and hide the default ones, thus the deeper integration they were mentioning.... (makes sense since the HTC browser is in fact the Android browser but with new bookmarks page, muiltitouch, and flash enabled)

Im happy again.....

Re: Switch to Stock Vanilla Android on the Hero

I didn't think it would be that much to fret over even if the stock ones were there.
