Ease of email usage?

I'm coming from lots of different phones, like the Palm Pre, iPhone and Blackberrys', but for some reason I don't get how the Android's email management is easy to use. I find it pretty hard to use. I only got it for a few hours and got the hang of everything pretty fast. But the email usage is really tough.

I get an notification on the Mail icon saying I get new mail. But it doesn't really say which email address ( using 5 emails ). and then I click to select which account to view and none of them had like a number icon next to the email to show which has new mail and how many, like the iPhone and Palm Pre.

Instead the only way I find I can find out, is clicking on the top of my home screen and checking which email the notification came from. Is there any way to easily manage and view my emails? Thanks!
