Gmail Contact Sync

I'm a longtime Gmail user, and I was really happy when Gmail finally supported Windows Mobile Activesync for contacts and calendar. Now that I've switched to the Hero, I have a problem with the contact sync.

On Windows Mobile, it only sync'd contacts that were in my "My Contacts" category. Android seems to be syncing all contacts in Gmail... including people I've sent an email to only once. I don't want 600 people in my contacts... I only want like, 30. I have to constantly delete people from my contacts after I send an email to them. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone else have an issue with this? Is there a solution?

Here is the solution:

Open your stock contacts/people. Go to the "Groups" tab, click the menu button and choose which group you want to sync.

Thank you very much... I think I stumbled upon that section before but when I saw 'Sync Contacts' I assumed it was to manually refresh, not the sync options themselves.... great looks like that did the trick :D

Thanks a ton, man! I wouldn't have thought to try the menu button there and spent a good amount of time looking for this in the Google sync setup menu. I really appreciate this tip!

I'm a soon to be Hero owner...is this step done on the hero itself or when you log in to gmail (contacts) on a PC.

TY...I have to wait until 12/1 but I'm set on getting this unless some surprise phone from Sprint shows up.

My issue is a little harder to fix. I have my contacts in Outlook and Contacts in Gmail. They are overlapping. Yes I can delete the ones on Gmail or I can delete the ones in Outlook. I cant merge them. When I add contacts it goes to Gmail and not outlook. Both would be okay.

So how do you merge and sync them both?
