The stock rom just doesnt offer me anything over the current custom roms. There are some truly awesome custom roms out already and im sure its just going to get better now as the official is out. |
Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I loaded the update on one of my heros and I have to say it's an improvement over the stock 1.5 but a letdown compared to some of the rooted custom 2.1 roms. I'm waiting for rooting to happen for the stock 2.1 so I can dump it.

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
No, I hate it. I had live wallpaper, wireless tether, friend-stream, and a whole host of other things that sprint left out. This ROM is crap! I will be working my butt off trying to re-root my hero! Sprint missed the mark on both the hero and moment Roms. I will root my EVO as soon as I get it as well.

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
Considering wireless tether (and wired tether) works as well tethering with one of my testicles, I may jump to the official 2.1. That's pretty much all I'd need root for and since they don't work for me anyway, I can afford missing Titanium Backup until it finally gets rooted

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
sigh... And the major differences in this rom are... mmbleeah.

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I rooted to 2.1 over a month ago, and have used a few different roms...fresh 2.0d, damage control 2.07, damage control 2.08.1, and now fresh toast 2.1. I've enjoyed the fresh toast rom the best, because it's over clocked. The phone runs so much better when using apps, surfing the web, and typing (most of the time). The only issue I really have is with the phone dialer app being really slow. With the processor being clocked at 768 mhz, it takes forever to open the app, and I'll start pushing numbers, and it will beep for 5-6 seconds straight, and only display the first number I pressed. Also, if I get a call, I can't answer it in time, as the swipe to answer is not responsive. Or it will just go to voice mail. I have lowered the max processor to 691 mhz, and that seems to make it a lot better. Almost how it was back when I didn't over clock. I can answer calls, but it takes a while for the end call button to display (10 seconds or so). I've found it's worse when not using the Sense UI (I was using Launcher Pro, which I liked, because it had the Nexus One feel).

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
Fresh 2.1.1/ freshtoast are better imo. They have all benefits of official Rom plus extras. I will just ride this out until the Evo... if anything there may be a fresh 2.2 or 2.1.2 soon that is flash, but in not touching that Sprint update with a 10 ft pole lol. Too little too late Sprint! Sprint Rom update = FAIL

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I was rooted and did flash to the new 2.1 Rom. So far I'm happy with it. I'm still going through and seeing what I can and can't do with it. About the only thing I'm starting to miss is the Wifi Tether, but it's not a deal breaker at this point. Give it some time and someone will have root access for 2.1

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
Wow, so far it's a tie for all three answers at 33.33%!
Thanks for all the input everyone, it's looking like those that love it love and those that don't, hate it. I hope more people chime in since I know more then 9 people did this upgrade. |
Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
Will not flash official release until there is Root available...
Is there anything special about the official release...??? |

It's a fast/stable release but not that much different than 1.5 was.

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I was rooted and flashed the official 2.1 to my phone. While i do miss having root, it's not the end of the world. I just don't use the apps that i don't want to use. I had live wallpapers and half the time they didn't work or lagged badly.
My phone is running nice and smooth and i have not had any complaints so far from anyone that i've updated so far. I'm a tech at a Sprint store and have updated about 30 - 40 heros so far. I could easily have just kept a custom rom and waited for someone to root the official 2.1, but i didn't feel comfortable flashing an update to a customers, or co-workers, phone without having tested it out first. So i used my phone as the guinea pig because i knew that i could fix it, but a regular customer wouldn't be to happy with me if i had to take a while trying to fix a phone because of a bad software flash. |
Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I put the Sprint 2.1 on my Hero after being rooted with Flipz rom's (which are great), just to see what the major difference would be. I knew going into it, that it patches up the root on your device, but did it anyway. I'm 50/50 with it. I feel like its a WAY more stable rom than the rooted versions out ther, but at the same time, I love the power of being rooted, and being able to customize my device. So if an auto rooter comes out (which I'm sure it will soon) then I will root. Doesn't matter though, I am selling my Hero to get the Evo. peace-

Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
Big mistake, my friends at sprint tried to flash mine but failed now im stuck with sprint 2.1
|
Re: Rooted Users Happy with Official Sprint 2.1?
I had a hero that was rooted, but I needed to get a replacement. Sprint automatically put their 2.1 on it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. But I really miss the live wall papers. I also don't like how the lock screen is the same as 1.5.
