My advice to you is re-download the RUU, and make sure you are using the NEW RUU tool. Did you flash the recovery image or make a nandroid backup? As a rule, to circumvent these incidences, only use the RUU from now on if it is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Re-download it and let me know.

Re: help

You're doing it very wrong, then. if you have the RUU, the hero is as close to unbrickable as i've ever seen, and i've seen a lot.

go to xda and tell the users there becuase they seem to be bricking their phones with the RUU very easy.

Well its probably because i'm very careful not to ever need to use the RUU. The only thing it does that nandroid can't is unroot the device, which is unecessary because if you have a stock root nandroid image, it is indestinguishable.

rooting is easy and won't hurt the phone. you need to root to use all apps and themes out there. it's the flashing the stock RUU that can cause issues. i also recommend you DO NOT flash a custom radio unless sprint releases it.

Ok, just to clarify, there is literally a 0% chance of you breaking your phone while rooting it, provided you are literate and don't make some shit up as you go. The danger we are discussing here is UNrooting your phone (which there are very few reasons to ever consider doing) with the RUU provided from sprint. Rooting and flashing the Hero are hard to mess up. The problem with unrooting lies withing the RUU itself. You're leaving a lot up to something you have no control over. Computer compatibility, usb connection, available power, driver installation, file corruption and some other issues are all factors in unrooting the phone.

When rooting, the issues are: Can you read? Can you type things you read?
