is not doing a nandroid backup before flashing a bad thing ?

i was so eager to root my phone that i forgot to do a nandroid backup. is that a bad thing? i had nothing on it just a couple contacts. it's probably no biggie but i was just wondering. BTW, i have been using fresh rom for about a week now with no problems. =D>
