Can you turn the Hero into a WiFi hotspot?

Hello all.

I'm new to these forums and have still been searching around. I'm in the market for a new phone upgrade and have first been considering the HTC TP2 since it has WinMo (and I've been looking around which was better: Android or WinMo) and it can take an app that turns the phone into a mobile WiFi hotspot (for me to connect my iPod Touch to).

However, doing some perusing on these forums, it seems quite a few people have switched from an HTC TP2 to the Hero because it has Android which provides a better experience.

After reading through some posts, I'm now considering an HTC Hero instead of a TP2. My only question is this:

Is there an add/mod that can allow me to turn it into a mobile WiFi hotspot so that I could connect my iPod Touch to?

Really, the discussion on the other topic (Should I switch from WinMo to Android?) makes it seem that Android REALLY IS the way to go and I'm starting to consider the Hero. But, I need to see if this one feature I'm looking for is possible.

yes u can most of the custom roms have WIFItether
which u can set up ur htc hero to send a wireless wifi signal to ur pc laptop or even ur ipod as long as u have service coverage ur internet is good everywhere

A statement I have read many times towards other forum posters. Having been a member on many other forums, I know about searching. And, I did actually search. However, I must've not used the correct terms since you say there are many other threads asking the same thing. In my defense, at the time, I didn't have that much time to go searching using various keywords this time around. Usually, I do an exhaustive search criteria before posting but this one time around, I did not.

Now that I am back on a PC I can borrow, I can do more searching onto this method.

Fair enough. I knew it was a rookie mistake, but hey, we're all allowed it once in awhile.

Thanks for the welcome and all the info, looks like I'll be getting a Hero instead of a TP2. Which, I'm glad, actually, cause I save even more money.

Yes, I did, I had to end up rooting the phone, which had an app with it that allowed it to be a WiFi hotspot. (Yes, I know, it's over a month old, I rarely check these forums anymore.)
