Re: rooting hero and loading roms

Use Fresh Pre Kitchen to root.
Once rooted, download the rom of your choice. Preferred options are Fresh 1.1, TTG, and Modaco.
I prefer Fresh because it just seems to run extremely well.
Once you have the rom of your choice downloaded, leave it in .zip format and transfer to your SD card. DO NOT put it in a folder.
Power off your phone, hold the home button + power. It should boot into Heroc. Scroll down to Apply sdcard: choose zip, select the rom you just put on your sd card, then press the home key. Wait for it to finish flashing and it will go back to the main menu, select reboot. Thats it. You have now flashed a custom rom.

Re: rooting hero and loading roms

hey check this out. I was a little scared about doing mine but it was sooo easy. I just followed this......

the unlockr . com /2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/
then loaded the new FRESH rom which is great I love it. It only takes about 20-30 min for the entire process.

You dont have a recovery image flashed to your phone. You may want to go back and READ the steps on that unlockr site again. If you just watched the video, you may have missed a step.

To flash a rom, you need the recovery image flashed to your phone. The recovery image gives you the option to back up your current phone state as well as flash .zip updates, ie... Roms, Themes, Kernels.. Without it, you cant do anything but remove the current sprint apps from your phone via the kitchen.

Thats what I am up too then, trying to flash the recovery image. This phone has the latest from sprint on it and I found a lot more over at XDA about it. using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
to try to get the recovery image flashed.

It worked flawlessly!

Yep. That guide is what I always point folks to for rooting and flashing recovery. Honestly, if you are somewhat computer literate, you can actually root and flash recovery using that manual guide in 10 min. Problem is that most folks struggle with understanding it a bit. If you need help, Pm me.
