Don't I need to install a Recovery Image before I can flash to Fresh? That's the step I am stuck on, sorry if I didn't clarify. I'm gonna reboot eveything and just try this all over from step 1 again and make sure I didn't screw something up along the way.

You dont need to install a recovery. Did you root your Hero?

EDIT: Dumb question, you already stated that you created a nandroid on the new phone. I havent done a recovery from nandroid personally but ill read up and see if i can help you.

I see the reason you are wanting to flash the recovery image now. Thacounty details it as the second thing you should do after rooting. I didnt follow that guide unfortunately when i first got my hero. I just rooted, made nandroid back up, and then flashed fresh 1.1. I havent had any issues whatsoever and everytime i want to flash a new rom, i just do a nandroid back up. Maybe Thacounty will come on soon and tell us why he suggests the Recovery step.

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

Ok, I see why Thacounty suggests that. Recovery image is the menu to allow you to flash custom roms, nandroid backup/restore, so forth and so on. From what it looks like, step 2 in Thacountys sticky is to upgrade or install the Recovery image. Like i said, i didnt use his guide so i dont know if the guide i followed incorporated this all in one. Do me a favor just to test, power off your phone and then hold home key+power. If a menu comes up after the htc splash screen that has green letters, then you dont need to install the recovery image. If it doesnt, then you will def have to install the recovery image.

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

Ok, well holding Home while powering on brought me to an image of a Exclamation Triangle with a Device Picture, and it just sat there, so I am assuming it was trying to load a Recovery Image when there wasn't one there for it? I'm going to go through the steps all over using the tutorials from Thacounty's guide instead right now, I will post up again in a bit with results.

This means you haven't installed a new recovery image. That's what happens with a stock phone.

You're already rooted, so all you need to do is copy the image itself to somewhere on your phone (sd card is fine) and run:

flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img

Or if you want something more complete, follow steps 13-19 here:

Re: A Few Questions for the Pros

Yeah I figured as much. So it took me a few tries (idk why but I had to reboot PC and phone twice) but I got the recovery image installed. After that I was easily able to flash to Fresh 1.1 w/ Flash Fix, and I am up and working perfectly.

So, where do I find this SMS Delete option you guys said was on Fresh? And also, can I switch some of the appearance stuff back to the way it looked on stock? I'm not digging the blue icons on the status bar or the transparency on the lock or on the curtain, and I also liked the old bar on the bottom better that showed you which home screen you were on... Not a big deal but whatever.

Thanks again for all the help guys, I'll be enjoying my Hero more now.

Fresh Pre Kitchen to delete SMS.

TTG has a bunch of different stock options and custom options in this thread.

Youll want the stock black theme for the bottom bar. Stock black lockscreen for the lockscreen.
Very simple to install, just put the .zip in the root of your sd card. Just like flashing a rom, just select the .zip you want to install.
