Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

i come from a long line of WM phones ( TP, TP2, Diamond, Mogule ) and just recently got the Hero. I am so stunned by the way the Hero works ( not the hardware ) but the OS ( hardware could have been abit better).... i will NEVER go back to WM phone ...i also just sold my iphone as i no longer needed it .. This phone does just about everything the iphone does and probably more ..For me the only great thing about the iphone was the app store and the ipod .. but the hero with doubletwist gives me the IPOD back ...soon as Nexus One comes out with a CDMA versions i will buy it and NEVER go back to microcrap...

You need to try it, loss of a keyboard did suck at first, but once you figure out how to use the android on screen with all of its adaptive text and set it up correctly, its perfect.

I love the hero and android.. been with wm since the ppc-6700.. tried BB. webos. now android.. though I do love webos..need a better phone for it.. until then im sticking with the hero.. ( i could care less if the screen is smaller compared to whats out there )

1. ease of use
2. it just works..
3. plenty of apps and mods
4. does everything i need it to do
5. get all my music needs.. last.fm , pandora, slacker, and my mp3's
6. extended battery options.. ( siedio 3500 mAh )

the list really can go on and on..do youself a favor and pick one up now..lol

Anyways, can you guys tell me your experience with Android? Especially if you came from a WinMo phone? Would you stick to Android or go back to WinMo? Whats the biggest upside/downsides in Android in comparison to WinMo?

Thanks.

Lookout! I got chewed out for pretty much asking the same question over in the Diamond forum! Ha ha

LOL.. Yeah, I DO think that you will probably have to keep this type of question in the Android forums. WinMo is feeling Verrrrryy threatened right about now. Ergo the defensive attitude. :-({|=

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

so OP have you decided?
I switched to the Samsung Moment because as I've said in other threads before...
Once you go slideout qwerty you'll never go back!!

Android is such a nice OS after using WinMo for many years I make the switch, even gave my TP2 away for free!!! (To my girlfriend)

WinMo is for users who are daily endusers (if you don't know what an enduser is you are one)
Android is for a someone who considers themselves a power user, sure you have to Root your phone to actually get SU, you don't have to Root the phone to get great enjoyment from it though... there are plenty of WinMo comparable apps on the Android.

Want real Visual Voicemail without having to forward your phone? Yeah it's built in
Need to sync Exchange for your business email/contact/calendar/tasks? Got that too
How about syncing Google email/contacts/calendar? Again, got it
Barcode scanners are your thang?! Yup, gotcha covered
How about a flash for your camera? Yeah Samsung Moment has one too (I don't know about the Hero)
Like the flip clock with the weather? You can download a free widget for that.. although I haven't found an animated weather thingy like the TP2 has (yet)
So you say you'd like a scientific calculator... there's one of those too!
MP3 player? built in... shoot you can even play Ogg Vorbis
Dvix player? Yes that too, it's not free though
I like the default web browser, if you like Opera you can download it for free
Android Market is a really nice feature as well, you can search or look under catagories

The greatest thing I like is the fact that my Android device is touch only, no styli to loose or accidentally pocket dialing because your keys touched the darn screen!

Just cause im curious and maybe im just a bad person. How do you use that slide out keyboard while driving? I know we arent supposed to drive and text but really, we still do from time to time. I just really dont see you being able to drive and type with one hand in landscape.

Re: Should I switch from WinMo to Android?

I've had my hero for 2 months down coming from tHe mogul..the tp1 and 2..and let me tell you..it's like a breath of fresh air...no crashing..stalling..freezing..none of it..i was REALLY apprehensive about coming to android..so i got off my butt..went to a sprinT store and played with a WORKING model for about 20 mins..i was SOLD...it ran smoother..faster..had what i was looking for..did everything and more than my tp2 did..I'm SO VERY happy with the hero....and now that you can root it to your sd card..even better...
the ONLY draw back was that you couldn't install apps directly onto your sd card and rooting it ISN'T the easiest thing to do if you're not somehwat tech savvy...but u get used to it...there IS a learning curve to it..but it's quick..and as stated before..i dont even miss my keyboard =)

it's GOLD jerry..GOLD!
