It's not IF, it's been confirmed that 2.1 (and not 2.0) will be released for the Hero. And Sprint said 1st half of the year, while HTC said it should be ready "early" next year... While it could be summer, I don't think a date has been confirmed.

Guys, what we need in this forum is another thread regarding 2.1. I mean seriously, the first 7 threads about this 2.1 phenomenon didn't actually cover any of the answers people are looking for. Surely if the OP didn't find the answer in the first 7 threads, then it doesn't exist right? So the only logical conclusion would be to start another thread about 2.1

The Hero is slated to receive an official update to Android 2.1 in the first half of 2010. The initial hold up was HTC redesigning Sense UI for the new framework, but the buck has since passed on to Sprint adding its own customizations, branding, and re-workings of the apps present in the original firmware. Some have provided "evidence" that the update will be issued OTA in February, while others maintain that given Sprint's history of delaying updates for long periods of time. The consensus among folks familiar with Sprint's announcements are expecting a release at the last possible second.

Let it be known that both HTC and Sprint have issued official statements stating the the Hero WILL receive these updates.

2.1 is pretty much a line for line copy of the version of what i can only assume is heavily skinned windows mobile that come on the t-mobile G1.

I have very IMPORTANT news for all interested in the new and upcoming 2.1 release!!!

There has been at least one more thread created for the upcoming release (of which time no one knows when) of the highly anticipated new firmware 2.1.. Please, we need all people who are interested in 2.1 to hurry and go post your thoughts in that thread as well as this one. Furthermore, if you are interested in 2.1 and feel the burning desire to start a new thread with regards to 2.1 firmware, be assured that no one will stop you from your dream of doing just that. That is what forums are for, starting as many threads about the EXACT same topic as humanly possible. So lets keep up the good work, and start new threads about 2.1. I thank you all for reading this.
