Browser question

Just a real quick poll here regarding the native browser for the Hero....

I've read and heard many times that the Hero stock browser loads pages as fast, if not faster, than the iPhone Safari browser.

My question is this, even when I am on a STRONG WIFI signal, and can get speeds using Speedtest.net's app around 2300 mbps download, the page will do an initial load (about 3/4 loaded) and then hang for a good 10-15 seconds before it finishes loading. This is for most, if not all, webpages I browse to, whether it has flash on it or not.

Has anyone else had this happen, or do you all get pretty quick load times?

Re: Browser question

The default android browser is quick; faster than many of the Opera Mobile & Mini's.

There may be a few variables to consider that may tame a consistent browser experience:

1. Background processes, running apps, etc
2. Of course location, EV-DO Rev 0, rev A, etc
3. Caching, depending upon how much and where it is cached to
4. Server load. Many browsers now have external servers that optimize browsing content and deliver it ideally for your phone.

However I no longer use the default Android browser. I use Dolphin and find it has a consistent page load & smooth browsing.

Well that's crappy. I like having a mobile browser that actually supports JS, but I'm also frustrated with the hanging/reloading of the page for 10+ seconds.

I'll disable JS and see what happens for a few days though.

Re: Browser question

The reason i takes so long is the bulk of the page load is downloading, while the bulk of your wait time is rendering. The phone processor has to assess a webpage's layout, format it to a computer, then zoom in on a specific part. Its kind of like opening a puzzle and dumping the pieces on the floor, then assembling it. Everything is there, it just needs to be put together.
