Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
O.K. so, I gave in :(
I went to the Sprint Store and then they also failed...LOL....and I was referred to a Sprint Repair Center who after 2 attempts were able to transfer my contacts. But I just want to thank everyone for all there suggestions, I came here first because I knew everyone would be this helpful!!! YAY! Well, coming from Treo's to my First WinMo(TP1) then to an Android phone was one heck of a jump for me and this morning when I got my phone I was overwhelmed with what to do first and my eyes are killing from being on here for the last 6hrs reading! LOL I am just a basic user who really likes awesome apps and customizing as much as I can. Though I am a bit afraid of messing with ROM's etc... I just can't do it. :( Well anyhow, my first question is: I've read the previous thread about transferring contacts via sync and Outlook. But I never had initially synched my TP1, so what type of advice would someone have for me to transfer my contacts over? It's such a raw feeling to "have had it down" and then get thrown back in...lol |

http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo I'd be sure to make a PIM backup of your contacts before you do this though...just to be safe. Also, on the WinMo phone your contacts will get changed to show Last name, First name....that's just the way it does it. Once you sync the contacts onto the Hero everything will look fine. |

Re: Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
With the Google/gmail enhanced Hero, the best thing to do is to keep your contacts updated with gmail. Any contact you have in your gmail contacts, is automatically synced/updated to your phone and vice-versa. Even when you tie a picture to a contact from your phone, it becomes a permanent part of your gmail account. It works so great, you can add one or a bunch of contacts to your gmail account if you have a computer/internet handy and it syncs wicked-fast to your phone.
Also, if you ever have to do a hard reset to your phone, all you have to do is enter your google/gmail settings to the factory-set phone, and all your contacts are right back on your phone. The setup is flawless, and I've done the hard-reset thing more than once to correct the other little "issues" you see discussed here on ppcgeeks. People kind of whine that they don't want to have every number they program into their phone become part of their gmail contacts, but the best remedy for that and keeping organized is being able to create and sort your contacts into groups created from your phone and gmail. It all syncs together. |
Re: Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
Ok maybe I didn't state my problem correctly, cause I keep getting told to connect my phone when the old phone has no service, it's dead.
OK here I go: My old phone TP1 has been disconnected and no longer has any service what so ever. I was unable to Active Sync my phone to my PC at work because the CD-ROM drive doesn't operate and I was never able to install my TP1 included disc. I do not have Outlook and I never uploaded my information to Gmail. I need: To transfer my contacts from the Service-less TP1. I have a USB Cable and that's about it. I installed Active Sync from Microsoft, but i dont have office or outlook. |

Re: Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
i also had this problem with my TP 1 transfering to Hero. so i did it manually 1 by 1, its faster if u do it on te pc instead of the actual phone. make ur contacts google contacts. ( opened gmail on the pc > contacts > add contact > entered info > save.) and it synced in less than 10 seconds.
u can also link them to their facebook account and birthday and email add themselves. BTW i had 97 contacts and it took me about 15 minutes |

Re: Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
+1 on putting them in one by one if you have less than a few hundred. If activesync is not working to the PC, you are out of easy options.
Do you have a friend with a working TP? You could do PIM backup of contacts to sdcard, and after he does a backup of his own contacts, he should be able to "restore" yours (from your sdcard). set up m.google.com on activsync, and sync your contacts with google. Then he can restore his own contacts. Good luck. |
Re: Transferring Contacts from TP1 to Hero
I do believe I am going to cry... LOL
I installed Active sync and then I downloaded a trial of Micro Office...well because I had been messing with the phone and I realized it was going online I tried to sync it with google and changed the settings as specified and it didn't end up working anyhow. Which is when I downloaded Office and since I had changed server to google.com/sync or something that did something so now it won't sync. I got PO'd and deleted sync from my phone server options and vice versa so that only windows pc something shows up. IDK! I have over 200 contacts with many having notes attached...ugh. I wanna kill someone. LOL. I guess I would've been done by now had I started when I first had an issue... |
