Anyone found a way to do it? Limited space internally...32 GB's of freedom externally

Android will not by default install apps on a sd card, you can however root the phone and install a sd card formatted with ext2 (as android is linux based), Found this post over at xda in the Dream forum explaining how to do it.

I assume it would be the same for the Hero.. Looks complicated but might be worth a shot..

Boot in to your recovery menu (green and black screen) in whatever way you like.

Choose "format sd fat32 + swap + ext2" off the menu. (Note: this will format your sd card so back it up first!)
Choose ext2 to ext3 conversion off the menu.
Install fresh rom
You are now running apps2sd

However unless you plan on installing 100+ apps, you should have no real need for it on the hero. Removing your sd card will break everything. This is a month old post from when I first integrated it, but it still applies: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...88&postcount=2

anyone really use apps2sd then?
cause it looks like a big hassle if you unmount the SD card from your phone, then you have to install all the programs again...

i may have to try that on my origonal touch just to show it off lols...
