PTT button useless? Not anymore...
 

The good fellows over at xda have created a little utility to re-map the PTT button to whatever you want, until it can actually be used for PTT! Check it out here:

You don't have a PTT button? Left side of the phone, says PTT on it?

edll, the 8525 has a PTT button, nextel-style, but PTT won't be available until next year AND you can't change the button to launch something else! Whata waste. This program allows you to customize it...

The TyTn's come with this function already enabled. By default the PTT button is "voice speed dial" and the hold is "record" a voice memo. I have changed the PTT to "ms voice command"

I see. I guess Cingular decided to make this button PTT only because they will actually offer this service, even if it is a few months away...

it will not be nextel like lol. no one will get cingular ptt. if u need ptt u get nextel or boost not cingular look at verizon who bought a verizon ptt phone lmao.

I meant "like" nextel, lol, I'm sure no one is buying this. I tried Sprint ready-link years back, so I know how bad it is.

You never know though, now with UMTS every Cing phone made down the line could have this capability. I know the Treo 750 is supposed to get it in Europe, not sure about here in the US. And now that it is "Internet" based, picture being able to PTT someone with Sprint, etc. If they worked together this could definitely happen, time will tell I guess.
