Will there be Gingerbread for the evo?

It was released on June 3rd as an OTA update. It has the version number of 2.3.4.

Ahhhh.
For some reason, I thought gingerbread was 3.0. I checked my version and its 2.3.3

So as I see it, honeycomb is 3.x and is mostly for tablets. Doesn't look like the Evo will be getting any more updates. The next one out should be 4.0 ice cream sandwich which won't run on the Evo. I'm due for an upgrade, so I'm waiting for the next HTC with ics!

My Evo is still stock. I am getting an update notice for my software. I called Sprint. I asked is this a Gingerbread update? She said no. It's a security update. Then I asked what is my OS? Is it Froyo or Gingerbread? She said to hold. She came back and said it is a Gingerbread update. I know I'm clueless but tech at Sprint seems to be as well. I have no clue what I'm running! I'm finished ranting now...

You should be running Gingerbread since it's been out for a while, this last update that it's offering you is a security update, should be a little over 3mb.

From hometab hit menu>settings>scroll down to about phone>software information>android version should be 2.3.3 and that's Gingerbread.

The EVO has been updated to Gingerbread version 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 1.0. If you root your phone you can enjoy the latest Gingerbread roms (2.3.5-2.3.7) and the newest Sense UI (3.0 or the just releasted 3.5) which is SICK. As far as ICS it will run on our phones but it wont be released for the EVO 4G so just wait for the rom makers on these sites to make it for our phone. I dont like plain Android roms so I'll wait for HTC Sense to be released for ICS. The EVO i feel still has a good life left hense why its still for sale and selling good. The newer roms for the phone keeps me happy with my phone as I have another year before i get my full upgrade credit.

+1 on that. I only left WM because no new software was coming out. Since I don't think Android is going anywhere anytime soon, I plan on dev'ing for my EVO 4G for a long time to come.

Good to see you again! I'm working on an Ace port for my first ROM that is 2.3.3/Sense 2.1 w/some 3.0 mods. All I have left is to get 4G working. I plan to start working on a Sense 3.5 port next. I just figured I'd start out with something a little easier. I don't like Sense 3.0 at all, so I think I'll skip that series.

You know I cant wait to have your rom again. Keep me posted bro. Im using a 2.3.5 Sense 3.5 rom now and absolutely love it.
