It's finally here!!! Xda-developers are confirming it will give S-Off to Hboot 2.16. I am doing it now and will report back.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
I am by no means a pro at this but this is what I did:
1. remove HTC Sync from your computer 2. Install HTC Fastboot Drivers (http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe) 3. Download Superuser (http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2....fgh-signed.zip) and put on your SD card 4. Put your serial number (S/N located under battery or on box) where indicated 5. Download the revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip when asked 6. Write down your beta key 7. Extract revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip somewhere you can find it 8. Make sure you are connected using the HTC Sync option on your phone 9. Check that USB debugging is enabled 10. Run revolutionary.exe from the revolutionary-0.4pre3 folder 11. Input the beta key where requested 12. Selected either Y/n to install recovery (I selected Y) 13. Select Recovery (Use the volume up/down keys to move and power to select) 14. Select install from .zip 15. Scroll down to su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and hit the power button 16. Reboot Congratulations you now are rooted and have superuser privileges. Now go find a ROM you like from one of the many talented Chef's out there (Be sure the ROM is for the Evo as ROM's for other devices will not work). Put the ROM on your SD card and boot to hboot (Power on + volume down) and select Recover, select install from .zip, select the ROM and hit the power button. Be careful as you can do permanent harm to your phone with root privileges. If you need to take your phone to Sprint for repair make sure you flash the stock ROM located at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-e...pped-roms.html . I hope that helps and if you are a pro and I missed something let me know. -Travis |
Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
The Serial number you need will be "shown/displayed" by the Revolutionary SCRIPT in your dos window. Download the Revolutionary tool *LEAVE THE BROWSER WINDOW OPEN, unzip, follow instructions (above) for debug and plugging in the phone and when you run the revolutionary exe it will give you a serial >>>>> Go back to the revolutionary browser window and put in your OS Device, Hboot and then the "serial" number shown in the dos prompt window the script created.
I got this from XDA because I was not understanding one of the steps but I did this to my step sons Evo and can verify I just rooted his GB Evo. |

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
I was having the same issue until I uninstalled HTC Sync, so take that off and then re-run the program and I'll bet it works.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
It's simple guys, either follow what was posted above, or go to the link below and follow the instructions, the only thing I will add to the instructions below is after you have entered your beta number into the cmd box it will root the phone and then after it will ask if you want to install the clockwork recovery, I would say yes and then you can change to RA later if you want but at least start with that one I would suggest.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
For some reason my phone won't let me choose the super user zip. It aborts when I try to install it. Anyone know what causes this?

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
I finally got the beta key to work. The problem was with the beta key generation: apparently the developers use the character "I" in many of the key codes. This is indistinguishable from "l" (lower case L). Cut and paste (through CMD) is the only way to accurately get the beta key into the program.
Good luck... |

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
Does it wipe your phone or can you do it without doing a backup?
|
Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
It doesn't wipe your phone unless you flash a stock rom, I would always suggest doing a backup before attempting anything of the sort.

Ok......any recommended backup tools? I'd love to do this, but have not yet.....
Actually never had backed it up yet.....was going to before HTC Breaded me last time and was just awaiting root as an excuse to do it. Email be damned......I really just need my Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies data ;-) |
Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
I just did a backup with the custom recov that Revo asks you to install.

Your best bet to back-up programs and it's data like for those two games you are talking about is to use Titanium backup. So what you want to do is root the phone, make an nandroid, boot phone up and install Titanium and back up the programs that you want and their data and then you can flash whatever rom you want and then reinstall you games/programs and their data and you won't have to start the games all over. |
Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
Ok.....ran it and it choaked after asking :
Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash ClockworkMod Re covery? [Y/n] y Downloading recovery for your phone (supersonic)... C:\evo4groot> No ClockworkMod installed and I just re-booted as normal. How can I tell if / where it worked (S-Off / root status)? I'm guessing if I can ascertain what my status is I can just install Clockwork and go ROM hunting? |

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
revolutionary.io works on Sprint EVO 4G with gingerbread 2.3.3 . After running on your computer flash su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip on your device.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
No that's not it, that's what everyone's running that was on the OTA. If I was you I would reboot phone and computer, make sure debugging is on for the phone, make sure antivirus is off on computer, make sure htc active syn is not installed, make sure to install the drivers. Everyone needs to realize this is just the beta program so everything is not perfect, I would say if you are having issues to walk away for a few and grab a drink or a smoke and then come back and try it again and read everything carefully as these things are finicky sometimes and require patience.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3
I am trying to fix my friends EVO that was Rooted with Revolutionary yesterday. He did not pick the select Y for the backup when he rooted.
Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash ClockworkMod Recovery? [Y/n] n He can not get into the recovery of his Hboot. I tried to mess with it for him since I am revoked rooted and know a little about rooting/roms/etc so I know his s-off is showing when he boots into the Hboot. When you go to recovery you receive a green circle then 2 secs later a red triangle with an !. You can do a power+vol up and it allows you to boot from the sd card however I received this error when trying to install the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed. E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command --Install /sdcard... Finding update package... Opening update package... verifying update package... E:signature verfication failed Installation aborted |
