Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

Yeah I was going to reply and say that you could just turn the phone off and try again or just run Revolutionary again, or you could have just put RA Recovery on your SD Card and flashed that. Glad to hear you got it worked out.

I kept getting the "invalid key" thing. Made me nuts. Finally I entered the serial in lower case and it worked.

1. remove HTC Sync from your computer
2. Install HTC Fastboot Drivers (http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe)
3. Download Superuser (http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2....fgh-signed.zip) and put on your SD card
4. Put your serial number (S/N located under battery or on box) where indicated
5. Download the revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip when asked
6. Write down your beta key
7. Extract revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip somewhere you can find it
8. Make sure you are connected using the HTC Sync option on your phone
9. Check that USB debugging is enabled
10. Run revolutionary.exe from the revolutionary-0.4pre3 folder
11. Input the beta key where requested
12. Selected either Y/n to install recovery (I selected Y)
13. Select Recovery (Use the volume up/down keys to move and power to select)
14. Select install from .zip
15. Scroll down to su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and hit the power button
16. Reboot

Congratulations you now are rooted and have superuser privileges. Now go find a ROM you like from one of the many talented Chef's out there (Be sure the ROM is for the Evo as ROM's for other devices will not work). Put the ROM on your SD card and boot to hboot (Power on + volume down) and select Recover, select install from .zip, select the ROM and hit the power button.

Be careful as you can do permanent harm to your phone with root privileges. If you need to take your phone to Sprint for repair make sure you flash the stock ROM located at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-e...pped-roms.html .

I hope that helps and if you are a pro and I missed something let me know.

-Travis

I apologize for my noobness. I am a little confused. I guess i am missing a step or something. Please help me out. here i go: i have no idea where #4 is taking place. What do you mean "where indicated"? I cannot fine revolutionary zip at all. Do you happen to have a link? What is the beta key and where do i find it? I appreciate all this info that you currently have on here. It truly is awesome and informative. If i could get you to clarify where i am lost that would be very very appreciated. Thank and have a great night

revolutionary.io is the website you get the root software from. This software is coded according to your serial number. It will tell you what you need to download according to your computers OS.

Hope that helps,

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

OK, I have read every post here. Getting the infamous invalid Beta key. I downloaded the latest from revolutionary.io. I copy and pasted the Key. I entered my serial number with and without spaces. I get 2 different keys and both say invalid wven when I use copy and paste. Any useful idea welcome. Just replying and telling me to read the guide is not useful. I have done it 40 times.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

I made it through all the steps until it tried loading in hboot.

I get :
SD checking...
Loading...[PC36DIAG.zip}
No image!
Loading... [PC36DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PC36IMG.zip]

Then it asks "Do you want to start update?" I selected y the first time, and it completely wiped my phone and put on earlier version of android. If I select n, and try going to recovery, it doesn't ask me which file, I just get an error message, the black screen with the red triangle with an exclamation point.

Anyone know what this means? I'm kind of lost. Had phone rooted before with unrevoked, is the PC36IMG.zip on my sd card part of the problem?

And when I tried re running revolutionary, it said already s-off, but I still don't have superuser.

Help!

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

for that problem go to the android market and download the super user app, then open it, its going to notify you about an update go ahead and download... once is finished is going to try to install but it will fail so dont worry and follow the instruction provided by the app... that will be reboot in recovery mode and flash the updated su... make sure you are updating the new su the one that you just downloaded... i try those steps and it worked!!! good look

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

Things I learned while rooting with revolutionary.

execute revolutionary.exe split the screen so you can see the web site and the program.
makes it eaiser to see the correct serial code to enter into for the beta key

the red triangle means you have not flashed a recovery so go get your favorite one. CWM, TWRP, ect.

you will have to flash the super user app you can get also from the web site. I used
su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip as the updted verrsion did not work for my evo.

I did struggle with doing it from my windows 7 x64 box but had 0 issues on my linux box
