Ok......any recommended backup tools? I'd love to do this, but have not yet.....

Actually never had backed it up yet.....was going to before HTC Breaded me last time and was just awaiting root as an excuse to do it.

Email be damned......I really just need my Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies data ;-)

Either install ROM Manager from Clockwork and do a backup from there (a nandroid backup) or install Titanium Backup and use that but be careful and don't restore app data. This causes process.android.acore to force close every few seconds. If that happens try wiping all data from the three Contacts programs using Titanium Backup (requires a lot of patience). If you don't have the patience just boot to recovery and wipe user data to start again.

From recovery you do a nandroid back-up and that way if you want to go back to stock then you can, leave a copy on your sd card and put a copy on your computer and anywhere else you want, can't have to many copies of back-ups.

Your best bet to back-up programs and it's data like for those two games you are talking about is to use Titanium backup. So what you want to do is root the phone, make an nandroid, boot phone up and install Titanium and back up the programs that you want and their data and then you can flash whatever rom you want and then reinstall you games/programs and their data and you won't have to start the games all over.

Ok.....ran it and it choaked after asking :

Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash ClockworkMod Re
covery? [Y/n] y
Downloading recovery for your phone (supersonic)...
C:\evo4groot>

No ClockworkMod installed and I just re-booted as normal. How can I tell if / where it worked (S-Off / root status)?

I'm guessing if I can ascertain what my status is I can just install Clockwork and go ROM hunting?

There are a number of ways to check. Do you have Superuser? If so you are rooted but need to install a recovery. To do so install Rom Manager from the App Store and install Clockwork from there. Or turn off Fast Boot and shut down; then hold volume down + power until it boots to Hboot; that screen will say either S-On or S-Off.

Apparently I have S-Off, but I cant install the superuser file that revolutionary recommends.....

Do I just need to install Clockwork then load up the superuser file from flash?

You can download it from the App Store or download the zip to your SD card and install through recovery.

Cool.....I'm rooted now.....time to go rom shopping for something decent.

Any recommendations aside from CM7? Looking for something clean and AOSP.

revolutionary.io works on Sprint EVO 4G with gingerbread 2.3.3 . After running on your computer flash su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip on your device.
