Skype video call mic volume

Have any skype users been trying out video calling via their evo 4g? I just tried it for the first time, calling another android user (not sure which phone) and it seemed to work great except that the mic doesn't seem to pick me up very well. The person i called was having trouble hearing me unless she used headphones. This isn't a problem when i vid call from my pc, so i'm assuming it's a problem w/ my phone and not hers.

anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Also, may or may not be related. When i enable the video calling feature it says my phone isn't Skype certified, skype does list the evo 4G as one of the enabled devices in skype 2.1 for android...

btw, tech info, non-rooted, fully stock 2.3.3, using official Skype app with latest update.
