Sounds like you may have downloaded the OTA using WiFi. I heard reports of this occurring,so try downloading with 4G or 3g. Also, you can easily flash the rooted ota roms that are available and not lose root.

OK, well I personally wouldn't risk losing root. Flash a rooted OTA and you have the update. I guess you can try unrooting and update but you will have to wait for another root solution to regain S off which can take time.

Re: flashing 2.3 on evo 4g with rooted 2.2

uggh! this has been repeated many times. if u did the OTA update and it worked, u probably lost ur root. if it didn't work it is because you were rooted and it recognized it and aborted. u should go to xda developers website. they have a clean stock gingerbread rom that u can flash to a rooted device just like u were doing a custom rom. it is the exact same rom everyone updated OTA with but it is set up like a custom rom so u just flash it and u don't loose your root. i am running the same thing everyone updated OTA with but i still am rooted. u need to go in and wipe everything in your bootloader before u flash. then u just remove the sprint stuff u don't want like u did when u first rooted.

are we really going to start that shit already? the update has only been out a couple of days and you're already bitching at people for asking a damn good question? really? in 6 months when someone is asking the exact same question, bitch. until then, help out. and be nice.

You can't install a full OTA over a rooted ROM. You always end up where you are. Your choices are to install a Froyo RUU or do what alot of us have done and flash the rooted 2.3. There are links all over this site.
