Why can't i get 4g speeds when using wireless tether app to my laptop

I turned on my 4g on my phone and ran a speed test with the speedtest.net app it confirmed that i was getting between 7-9 Mb down which is pretty fast and considered 4g speeds to me then i fired up the wireless tether app on my rooted unrevoked htc evo phone with regular firmware and the latest radios and what nots and connected my laptop to this wifi connection established by my cell phone ran a speed test on my laptop through speedtest.net and multiple other speed measuring sites and they all said i was getting about 400-600 kbps so my question is why can't i tether in at the 4g speeds that the speed test are confirming that im getting I've done some searches and found a few concerning the same or similar issues but nothing i read through seems to offer a working solution can anyone explain to me why is this happening and if it is possible to fix and how?

The wireless tether hack been capp since day one it will only show fast speeds on 3g not on 4g I'm rooted but I'm paying for the hotspot too

I have no Idea why your receiving those low speeds!? I connect to both my PS3 and Laptop...and come to think of it I never tested the speeds on the laptop? I tested it on the PS3 in my house and the lowest speed I received was 2 mb down! I'll check my laptop later after work on the way home and report back in.

I had a guy connect to me across the room at a meeting. He was getting about 1.5 down. There are several versions of Wireless Tether.

Now, I doubt you will ever see full 4G since you are now doing double-duty with your device. You are processing 4G and 802.11

2mb down is not true 4g speed..at 1 bar on m phone I get 4mb down, and on 2 bars 7mb down..on the tether If i got 2/3 bars I get like 1.5-2mb down

its not a limitation of the double processing..I guarantee you..as on my Epic I was able to unlock 5mb down using a messy method :/

Correction, who said it was true 4G speeds!? I merely stated that is was the lowest speed I was receiving while in my house (hint's I get higher speeds, as this is the lowest) as 4G has a harder time penetrating through walls...outside I clearly receive higher speeds. On average 6-7 mb!!!
