SD card Read/Write speed fix (5Mbps to 15Mbps)

WARNING: I do not know if all Android ROMs make use of /system/etc/init.d scripts, so this may not work for you. Use at your own risk!

ROOTED STOCK ROM USERS: Unfortunately, it seems that you folks will not be able to make use of this tweak, since it seems that the stock ROM does not utilize init.d. I do not have access to a phone running the stock ROM, so am not sure where in the boot process we can alternately insert a script to apply this tweak upon every bootup.

First, check to see if you even have an init.d folder.
adb shell ls /system/etc/init.d
Your output should look something like this:
c:\Incoming\Android>adb shell ls /system/etc/init.d
00banner 02firstboot 04apps2sd 99complete
01sysctl 03modules placeholder
If you get "ls: /system/etc/init: No such file or directory" as a result, then you don't have this folder and SHOULD NOT CONTINUE.

DOWNLOAD FLASHABLE ZIP HERE: Courtesy of akazabam @ AndroidForums

sdreadahead-signed.zip

Boot into recovery, flash, reboot.

After rebooting, run the following to double-check everything worked properly.
adb shell cat /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
If it says 128, you're done! I hope this helps some of you out!

Also this speeds up the phone considerably especially if you are using APPS2SD...

Re: SD card Read/Write speed fix (5Mbps to 15Mbps)

Thanks. I saw this at XDA, just checked my read_ahead_kb and it says 4, lame. I'll give this a try.

Edit:

I have a class 2 card sdhc installed.

Pre test results: write speed 3mb/s, read 4mb. class 2 confirmed

Post test results: write speed 4mb/s, read 10mb!! Now it says i have a class 4 lol.
Sweet!

Re: SD card Read/Write speed fix (5Mbps to 15Mbps)

I have a Kingston 16GB class 10 and it bumped my write speeds from 2MB to 4MB and my read speed went from 8MB to 16GB

If you want a flash able zip, attached is Calklin's zip. This should work on any rom. You should always do a nandroid backup before flashing any zips. Otherwise you are toast if something doesn't work out for you. Mikewest if you don't have a nandroid backup your going to have to wipe and re setup your EVO.

Also Karlie I would suggest you post the source since all you did was copy and paste others work from XDA. XDA member Beknatok posted what the you copied. Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6&postcount=47

Re: SD card Read/Write speed fix (5Mbps to 15Mbps)

I have the Init directory. I unmounted and copied it to my card and then installed the spearhead. It actually slowed my card access significantly. I restored and all it normal.
