Very confusing problem with Calendar Invitations

Login to Gmail
Click on Settings
Click on Accounts tab
Click on Google Account settings
For email addresses, I removed my work email as an associated address. Per the on-screen text, additional email addresses "...helps Google associate useful information with your Google Account. For example, Google Calendar can show invitations sent to any of your addresses."
