4G Won't Connect
I cannot get my EVO to connect to 4G. It turns on, scans, and then says "disconnected." I know service is available - my wife's stock EVO connects.
After researching this issue for quite a while now, I think I'm now more confused than informed. Any help would obviously be "thanked." My EVO's history: Got it on release day. Hardware version 0002. Still on HBoot 0.76, for what that's worth. Stock ROM for quite a while, but did not do any OTA updates on it because I knew I wanted to root and flash another ROM later. Once Froyo came out I flashed to OMJ's 2.2 ROM (don't remember which version - probably his first or second 2.2 version). I can't remember if I attempted to update any radios or anything at that time. And I never bothered to check if 4G was working since Minneapolis didn't have 4G service yet. Thought I remembered reading somewhere that OMJ's first couple of 2.2 versions didn't support 4G. Don't know if that makes sense though. Once Minneapolis got 4G I tried it on my EVO. With the ROM I was on the antenna wouldn't even turn on. I flashed OMJ's latest ROM at the time (v4.2). Now 4G will turn on, scan, not find anything, and display "disconnected." I updated my wimax radio to 4.6.2.3v27167_, as well as the other update on Calk's combo update (radio - 2.15.00.11.19, etc.). Here's what I know: Through a terminal emulator I've learned that my Wimax MAC address is correct. I ran wimax_mtd and everything came back OK/Pass/Match. I ran "grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0" and got "-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----/-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----," so I'm assuming my RSA keys are cool. However, the Wimax log gives me this: #tail -f /data/wimax/log/*.log 23:51 5.912 >| OMADM/ detail >| Board name: 'HTC-Speedy' 23:51 6.374 >| OMADM/ SEVERE >| Polling server not deleted in a synchronized manner! 23:51 7.374 >| OMADM/ WARNING >| Node '.' at '' doesn't match DDF 23:51 7.434 >| OMADM/ WARNING >| There are no parent node '' for node '.' 23:51 7.438 >| OMADM/ WARNING >| Invalid tree reference: './WiMAX/WiMAXRadioModule/0/TO-FUMO-REF' points to './FUMO' which is not exist 23:51 7.754 >| DC/Device info >| 0x3E030000 provisioning => ready 23:51 7.756 >| DC/watchdog audit >| started 23:51 7.756 >| SQND/Device info >| N/A attached => ready 23:51 7.756 >| DC/Security detail >| stopped => idling 23:51 7.984 >| SQND/Device info >| notifyReady: ready What should I try? Should I start over? Flash back to stock (Calk's Format All > Wipe > stock ROM > OMJ v. 4.4)? What about the radio? back to stock too? I like to consider myself pretty good at this stuff, but a programer I am not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will obviously thank you. |
Re: 4G Won't Connect
Also wanted to mention that I did post in the OMJ thread and was told I need to find a thread on how to repair my wimax. Doing a search for "repair wimax" or "wimax encryption" didn't return anything.
Thanks again. |

Re: 4G Won't Connect
Check your 4G Mac address.. is it the one it's supposed to be? Look under your battery. For me... I flashed a bad file for the WiMax radio and permanetly killed my WiMax. RSA keys were gone. I had to do a dance at Sprint to get them to replace it, which I finally succeeded at.

Re: 4G Won't Connect
I've never been able to connect to 4G. I'm not in a 4G area, but when I've traveled to a 4G area it's never connected. Keep us posted what you find out.

God, I feel so much pressure now.
;) I'll be sure to let you know. Maybe I'll throw together a what I (think I) learned after this is all said and done. |
Re: 4G Won't Connect
Have you ever done a Nand Restore? When you did your Nandroid backup, what Recovery were yopu running?
I am supicious of a corrupt RSA key. |
Re: 4G Won't Connect
Never did a restore, no. And I fear for my RSA keys, too, if I have to use my backup from when I first flashed to OMJ's 2.2 ROM. I followed the steps in the older videos posted at the bottom of http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/1793724-post1.html. From reviewing that video, it looks like I would have used the Run > c:\evo-recovery backup method for my first backup. I hate to admit it, but I'm having a hard time finding my backup from then. It's not on my SD card. I might have put it on my laptop, which my wife is using right now.
Again, went straight from release-day stock with no OTAs to one of the first versions of OMJ's 2.2 ROMs to OMJ's 2.2 v4.2 w/ Caulk's combo radio/wimax/pri update. So only 2 flashes (with clean, double wipes) and the combo update ever done on this phone. |
