Help needed:Still have original evo with original stock rom UPDATE:took ota's

Hey folks, Ive been out of touch for a while. i still have the original firmware 2.1 update 1. Baseband 1.39.00.05.31 build 1.32.651.6. I also still have the original 1 click unrevoked. Looking to upgrade to 2.2. Need the best route. Should i just use the latest sprint/HTC ota or should i use the newest unrevoked 3.3?(if the latest unrevoked should be used, should i do an OTA 1st? Any help at all will be appreciated (even if its pointing me to a thread that addresses my exact issue. Thanks. Root is not required since i only use it for wireless tether(just saw a thread that allows wireless tether(until soft reset) without root).

Thank anyone for any help or advice at all.

UPDATE:if anyone is in the same or similar position I was in, just take OTA's then search this forum for Z4root or google z4mod or z4root. It's a temp root which grants apps SU permissions. All I needed since i don't flash roms. Also when I took the Froyo 2.2 ota I DID NOT wipe and i didn't lose anything. All contacts, pics, vids etc remained. I did lose the Market. Went to apps and games here at ppcgeeks and DL'd vending.apk from a thread. Now all is well with update. Thanks to those who offered advice.

so you want root?
if not just take the ota and if you want root later just download the new unrevoked

Re: Help needed:Still have original evo with

I assumed as much, but the threads that had a few people "reverting back" to previous baseband versions threw me off a little. The other issue, just backed up everything with titanium(free version) and it requires root to run(so it says). So i also assume that i will not have any access to my back up until root again.

Re: Help needed:Still have original evo with

if you want run tb you need root ... so you have root already right?

so if you have root already use this
DOWNLOAD
MIRROR

run from hboot

this will give you the newest build and radios

Re: Help needed:Still have original evo with

I have the original unrevoked that offered SU permission but no nandroid BU or anything. It just gave apps that needed it SU permission (wireless tether etc.)

Re: Help needed:Still have original evo with

you can try this
[Program] SimpleRoot .1 ---- 3 Click Root w/ nand unlock!! - xda-developers

this is simple root it should work with your version and give you full root
after you have full root use this and you have all the newest stuff

DOWNLOAD
MIRROR
[All-In-One Update, INCLUDES Updated Baseband & Wimax Radios + PRI 1.90_003, Uninstallable apps]

doing it this way should be less steps

Re: Help needed:Still have original evo with

if Hboot 79 is required for new unrevoked, then yea. Also original unrevoked was just an apk...no ruu's or hboots or power up holding volume going into boot loader. So all these things will be new to me. Now im sure i can find a youtube vid to walk me thru it. I'm not concerned if the process is slightly harder than a 1 click apk, its just time for me to update this phone.

By the way, thanks for all the advice. I do appreciate it.

Ok...just saw the post above. Ill give that a go.

and i asked about hboot 79 becuz its easy to work with unlike the newer hboots and the newer hboots have no benefits they are just harder to root

the simple root link i gave you has a video

to get to hboot its hold power and vol down at the same time
and uninstall apk before you start
