Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
+1 on newest update having swype..... just about every android device, whenever they get their next update, will probably include swype... Swype has a deal with what seems like everyone now..(or atleast LG, HTC, and Samsung that i know for sure of)

Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
![]() ![]() ![]() thanks! its strange.. because I had "check for updates" checked... but when I manually looked for updates, it showed a new one was available.. (this is an "HTC software update") Also.. I'm rooted using the latest unrevoked (the one that provides full root access) is that going to be an issue? will I lose root by doing this? Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
yes you will lose root. If you just want the update flash it through recovery from [ROM] RUU SuperSonic EvO 3.70.651.1 OTA - Stock - Sense - Deodexed & Odexed Version - xda-developers
And yes its going to wipe your phone if you do it that way. But its either that or update via OTA and lose root. |

so, if I do the OTA and lose root.... can I just rerun unrevoked and regain root access? or will i brick my phone?

Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
I only use a few apps that need root (wifi tether and SetCPU) but don't want to lose that.... is there any way besides flashing a rooted ROM and losing my stuff? I haven't really gotten into flashing the Evo like I used to with my Touch pro because its been so great on the stock rom I haven't found a need to change! so I'm also not really up on how to backup all my settings and apps (I backup my contacts with exchange, but thats it) Havent had much time to sit and screw around with my phone...

Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
Just get titanium backup... backup all your apps and stuff and flash away. Then restore all your info. I've become so accustomed to it the whole process to wipe, flash and reinstall only takes me about 20 minutes. And flashing new roms on android is a lot easier IMO than it was on winmo.

Re: Epic 4G Swype on Evo 4G?
thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna sit down this holiday weekend and get this straightened out (or at least attempt to!)
on the flip side.. I downloaded the new gingerbread keyboard... I'm really liking it.. its not as good as swype.. but it works much better then the stock keyboard |
