Stock EVO continuous rebooting

I have a up-to-date stock evo that is stuck into a constant reboot cycle... It gets to the big 4G screen then reboots again...and again and again....
a little background.. battery was very low and I was charging via a car charger that wasnt giving it enough power the phone eventually died... but i have since fully charged the battery and am still stuck.
I am sure if I were to erase all the data and go back to default rom that would alleviate this problem, if possible I would like not to have to use that option.

Any helpful tips would be appreciated..

well if u were already rooted you could have booted into recovery, did a backup, then you'd have a copy of your data.img. From there, you could flash a rooted stock or custom rom, then restore your data.img.

I'm not sure if the latest rooting methods would blow away your existing rom/data.

I dont see any reference to you losing data when rooting.. but at this point what do I have to loose...I think I'll root and see what happens..
