Couple questions about Clockwork Mod Recovery

So I rooted my Evo using Unrevoked 3.21. I think Unrevoked uses the image from Clockwork as way to and it installs Clockwork Mod Recovery which allows you to do Nandroid Backups, install Zip file, etc.

I also have Root Explorer, Clockwork Rom Manager, Quick Boot, and Root Manager installed. I ahve the Premium version of Rom Manager which is suppose to make it easier to to install Custom Roms, Nandroid Backups, etc. So I tried using Rom Manager tonight to do Nandroid Backup. When the program opens, I get a message saying "You must have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed in order to Flash Roms or do backups". Everything is grayed out from ROM Management on down and even when I click "Reboot into Recovery", it ask for Root Permission, but it doesnt do anything.

Here's a pic.

Any ideas?

Re: Couple questions about Clockwork Mod Recovery

I experience the same thing. All I ever use it for is to reboot into recovery and I do all my stuff there.

Re: Couple questions about Clockwork Mod Recovery

All you have to do is click the button at the top that says flash clockwork mod recovery. Now, with that said, don't do it. You want to ditch clockworkmod recovery for Aman RA 1.8 recovery which you can also flash by clicking on the bottom button in rom manager install alternate recovery. Now here is the rub, rom manager won't work with AmanRA but you definitely want AmanRA. Here is the problem, when you use clockworkmod to do a nandroid backup it doesn't back up everything, and an important item that it doesn't back up is the RSA keys. What are the RSA keys you ask, I don't know the technical but you must have them for 4g to work so if you lose them your 4g will be busted and you can't get them back. So, how do I lose them you ask? If you install a new radio or a custom rom that installs a new radio and the install fails and you have to revert back to your nandroid backup your screwed because clockworkmod didn't back up your RSA keys and there is no way to get them back, if you want 4g you need a new phone. SO the solution, is to install AmanRA 1.8 recovery which does back up you RSA keys and if you need to do a nandroid backup you will be good to go and your 4g will still work. Sorry you paid for rom manager because it is pretty much useless except for switching recoveries and booting into recovery.

That's partially true. I have full access to Rom Manager and I use Amon RA as a recovery and completed the switch through Rom Manager. In the same breath, I did a few nandroid backups utilizing Clockworkmod and I didn't lose my RSA keys when I restored my rom via the nandroid backup. However, after further reading and almost thinking I lost my RSA keys, I have made the switch to Amon RA. Those RSA keys are really important. I have to say though I was scared as scared can be because I have a White Evo and it wasn't easy to come by.

That's weird. Clockworkmod is the default recovery used when you root using Unrevoked, well at least for me it has been. Something unusual must have happened during the rooting process or it could be you are running an earlier version of Clockworkmod. Either way, if you click on flash Clockworkmod Recovery at the top of Rom Manager it will flash the latest version. Once that's done, go with what cruise is saying and switch to Amon RA because there is no feeling like thinking you lost your RSA keys.

I keep hearing 4G doesnt work on 90% of custom roms. Which is why I'm still running stock. I want to try other ROMS but if 4G is not gonna work, its not worth switching

Re: Couple questions about Clockwork Mod Recovery

When I press "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" , I get a messaging saying "unable to connect to server. Please make sure you have a stable internet connection". I've tried it on 3G and WiFi now.
