Need to replace my Evo
I need to return my Evo to BB due to a buzzing earspeaker thats driving me nuts. My question is, I am currently running Fresh's latest ROM and have backed up both the Nand + ext and the google proprietary files to my sd card. Will I need to root the new phone and install all of the apps or will a simple restore of the aforementioned backup files work?
Also, should I try to wipe my phone before taking it back? Thanks in advance! |
Re: Need to replace my Evo
i think u have to root your new phone.

Re: Need to replace my Evo
Root new phone, restore your nand+ext and google. Full wipe before you send would be good, unroot if you don't want them to know. nand saves your google sync, contacts, apps, sms/mms files. You'll get it all back on replacement after you root.

Thanks for the replies!
Just when I get everything dialed in I have to replace the phone :( |
Re: Need to replace my Evo
Think of it this way, if you did full backup, when you get replacement and root it, then do a complete restore, it eill be like you had your phone off for some quite time and turned it back on. The new will be exactly like the old as far as operating goes. Just the hassle of doing it.

Re: Need to replace my Evo
Ugh.... just got back from Best Buy and was told by the rep that I need to unroot the phone and flash back to the stock ROM. Apparently, when they send it in for repair the ROM is checked and if not stock the warranty will be deemed invalid. Ironically the rep then asked how I liked the latest Fresh ROM and told me he was running the same thing on his.

Re: Need to replace my Evo
I would suggest you NOT use the latest RUU to flash your evo to stock rom. I did that to take my phone in this morning. Now I want to go back to Root to continue "playing" with my phone and it seems this latest stock version 3.30.651.2 is not "rootable" at the moment at least. So im stuck with stock rom! BLOWS!
I would suggest you use a previous version -3.29xxx since those have already been cracked and rooted in the past, otherwise you will be stuck like me, trying to find a solution... |
Re: Need to replace my Evo
yeah i would flash to a 2.1 custom rom then run the lowest ruu you can

Re: Need to replace my Evo
Oh crap! Thanks for the heads up! I was just in the process of d/l that version too.
What a pain in the a$$ this is becoming. Just to rub salt in the wound, BB said it could take up to 30 days to get it back. |
Re: Need to replace my Evo
We need a Sticky on, "I am taking my phone to the Sprint store and need to restore it to stock." Seems to pop up a couple times a week now.
