Unable to use 4G when USB tethering?

Having an issue with USB tethering. If 4G is enabled and I plug my Evo into my PC, 4G drops out and reverts back to 3G...the same as if the phone was already plugged in and just charging, as soon as I change the connection to USB tether, 4G is gone. You can see that the 4G "attempts" to connect, but just goes into a vicious cycle of trying to connect, the drops out and it just keeps trying and failing.

I have tried multiple roms with the same results.

Would anyone be willing to try it on your end and see what happens? Plug the phone into PC with 4G on, start USB tethering and see if 4G remains active or if it drops out and fails to reconnect.

I am desperate, the evil Comcast is just about to turn my internet service off because I went past their 250GB monthly bandwidth and need to get some work done using tether.

I am begging, pleading, wishing and hoping that someone could help!

Thanks so much!

Re: Unable to use 4G when USB tethering?

what app are you using to tether with? I'm using pdanet and have no probs like you're having. worked fine unrooted and still works after rooting last week with unrevoked, titanium backup and bloatware removed. even did the ota then got tb and su back.

Actually, was using the built-in USB tethering option, didn't think i had to use a 3rd party app...installing PDANet now! Thanks!

Re: Unable to use 4G when USB tethering?

what are your speed test results w/ 4g?

even though I have 4g, I'm not getting USB or WIFI tether speeds that are anywhere near my 4g speeds.

Re: Unable to use 4G when USB tethering?

When running the speedtest.net app, i see anywhere from 3-6mb down, usually latency runs from 70ms upwards to 300ms depending. Unfortunately, being tethered, it's just not fast enough...compared to Comcast or other broadband connection. I am sure some of the bandwidth is being used by all the apps running on the phone, but cannot imagine that Sprint's hotspot service could ever provide more than semi dialup speeds...in my opinion.

Downloading a few torrents, browsing a bit, ect...never seeing more than about 200kB/s down and about 50 up.

Re: Unable to use 4G when USB tethering?

So now you are going to suck down 250 GB/month over Sprint? Look, the tethering is illegal and for casual use. It is also an issue where Sprint is talking about dropping unlimited data plans. It will be people like you that break the camels back and ruin it for all of us.
You are using so much bandwidth that your ISP is dumping you and now you want to do the very same through an unpaid process that is clearly against the law? You will probably be dropped from Sprint to. Why not do the adult thing and sign up for the Hot Spot and buy your bandwidth? You will have all that money left over from not having to pay for ComCast.
