Re: New phone and unsure how to do what I want to do HTC EVO
ok...you're asking for what everyone wants...so you're not alone.
for root...I suggest you wait for unrevoked newest method (1 click) it makes the whole process painless. Unrevoked has come a long way since it first came out. for uninstalling bloatware and system apps...such as Sprint crapware and/or Amazon MP3...I suggest using Titanium Backup. it allows you to back up your apps...AS WELL AS uninstalling apps (to include sys apps.) Your apps are backed up on the SDcard so life is good. for battery life...you can cut down on the times that the phone updates such as friend stream, Google talk automatically signing itself in...etc. Once you have root, you can use JuiceDefender OR use Tasker to adjust when the phone connects for data and such. Ultimately, I think the best way to increase battery life is to flash a custom ROM...you can then underclock your phone while its sleeping, overclock your phone while you're using it... all the above mentioned "fixes" are in these forums and XDA. Though I think XDA is currently down...so I'd do a thorough search of these forums for MORE detailed ideas/instructions. The apps I mentioned can all be had in the Marketplace...and for flashing custom ROMs...do search...its almost like Google oh by the way, welcome to PPC Geeks...and I would absolutely suggest you learn to use the forum search function for what you're looking for first.

If you want to try root now (I just did 3 Evo's a couple days ago) you can head over to IRC to get the 1-click rooter and ask questions in the community. Freenode IRC servers chat room #unrevokedtest

Re: New phone and unsure how to do what I want to do HTC EVO
Thanks amw1972, I looked into unrevoked3 and its currently unavailable and I can't find it anywhere else on the net so it appears I will be dealing with stupid sprint bloatware until unrevoked3 is available again unless someone has a copy to share.

1 Click root best be used by someone rooting a friend's phone that already knows the long way and doesn't want to go through the process. I you need to 1 click root, I would suggest against rooting.. Once rooted you can REALLY permanently damage your phone. -CC

Re: New phone and unsure how to do what I want to do HTC EVO
would love too but dont do twitter, myspace or any of those sites. I have serious issues with their lack of security and my info all over the net. I guess I will wait till a better way to get the release is presented to me.

Re: New phone and unsure how to do what I want to do HTC EVO
Grabbed 3.2 on the net, omg so easy and removed all those apps that bothered me like all the sprint bloatware, football, news, facebook, peeps, twitter etc....
So since these apps have been removed what are the chances that sprint will do a update and reinstalled them? |
