New Voice Actions on Android 2.2
 

Has anyone tried the new voice actions on android 2.2 that was just released today? It is in the android market. So far it is very accurate. Would work better if the evo had noise canceling microphone.

Darn, I can't install on Fresh rom. Says I have to update manually. Anyone else?

What is our called voice actions? Don't know what you taking about new here.

Yes...I like it but the server seems to be down a lot and that is very annoying..

Most of us on custom ROM's have to manually delete the old voicesearch.apk in /system/

reboot then launch the market and install from there..

Go to the android market and download "Voice Search". It will update your current voice search so that it has the latest features.

Man this thing is OFFICIAL. This basically integrates the whole phone into the voice option and it's pretty accurate.

Hey did you know that goog411 was free all along to be used as a huge voice recognition lab? Probably why it works so well.

This is amazing....I was able to create several emails and text messages perfectly without using the onscreen keyboard except to hit the send button.

It's the biggest piece of crap. It would rather search for contacts on the internet than on my phone. Pretty frustrating. Call...fail. text...fail. email...fail. alarm...fail. anyone getting similar results?

Call Edith...

Brings up Edith in a web browser.

Text Edith...just brings up a text box, but has no recipient filled in.

Do you have to have all the contacts in your google account? I am suspecting so. It doesn't search my phone contacts at all.

It's accuracy with Bluetooth is nothing like the video shows. Without the headset, I say, "Call John Clinger mobile" and it comes up with Call University of Phoenix Stadium. Accurate? No, not at all.

Calls Sears Ala Moana comes up with Call Geox USA, Inc.

I am using the latest Fresh...How can I delete the original voicesearch.apk...The phone won't let me!

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one failing at this. I tried using it to call my wife for like 15 minutes last night. Not a big time saver when it doesn't work.

I started using it yesterday morning when i first read the article... and i would have to say it is great for quick things, such as call "Bob" but for me, my cars BT interface does a more reliable job of calling the numbers and names i want.

And it has a hard time in searching for stuff on the web, like "How do you get a person from Chicago to speak slow enough for this speach engine to figure out what we are saying... "

But for me, for a quick, "TEXT BOB" "I AM DRIVING, CALL ME IF YOU NEED ME!" has been working really well for me...

I've found even with the BT and my T1 I have say the name phonetically to get it to work. e.g. I say Demory - "Dem-or-ree" but the phone spits back "Dee-more-e"

It works great for me. I have done a bunch of texts and phone calls and every time its been right on the money and no errors. I like it.

Accurate? Told it to play shadows fall and it dialed crimeline...wtf? Told it to call mom on mobile and it dialed Mom and Pops restaurant in toledo, ohio, but I'm in central florida. Worthless if you ask me.

I installed the new Voice Actions on a stock Froyo Evo and did a couple of test runs to Google Maps and Navigation. Now the phone is in continuous vibrate mode. Deleting the voice action update didn't help. Taking the battery out didn't help. Any advice, other than a hard reset?

If you took batt out and it still has a problem, the only recoarse is to reset. This app (update) is horrible. I'm glad that for some it works flawless but for me, I'd rather be stung on the bunghole by a wasp then use this app. Just tried it again....told it to call dad mobile and it brought up a call dad webpage. Then told it to call/dial voicemail and it dialed valet services of governmental projects in toronto, canada....where's the wasp?

I downloaded AudioManager and that magically fixed the problem.

I deleted it last night, reinstalled it again and just deleted it again. To have to add another application to make it work is not acceptable. This is by far the worst play app I have installed. The device is fast though. That's about it.

I agree. I wonder if people having accuracy issues have some kind of speech issue or just don't speak the English language well. This is not meant as a slight but it's quite possible you are not pronouncing your words with the right infliction or something along those lines.

I am using it directly from the phones microphone and it's damn near flawless.

Yes, As long as you are a clear speaker and enunciate well, the voice search works nearly to perfection. I love being able to generate a text or an email from speaking. I went from a nice slide out keyboard to the EVO and that was about the only thing I missed.....until now...so long keyboard

use root explorer if you can. It will make it a snao to remove the old app and install the new one manually
