I am betting that by the time the 2.2 root exploit comes, we will see Gingerbread come out which will close that exploit as well... taking out another 50% or so of the exploiters... unless we learned out lessons... lol.

You know its also a possibility that they have successfully exploited 2.2 already and just are waiting for gingerbread to come out to release it so we will not only be able to root 2.2, but gingerbread as well.......i mean it would make sence to hold off on the release so that when gbread comes out the deva won't have to deal with the new era of evo-ers SOL bc they upgraded b4 the gbread was routed!!

I'm curious to ask...for those who accepted the 2.2 upgrade from Sprint/HTC...why do it IF you already had full root?

Knowing that AOSP will be released soon after as with the source coming from HTC??

I know lots of folks were in a hurry to get at Froyo...there were MORE than a few alternatives out there...damned good ones too (Avalaunch's V and X series come to mind...)

This reminds me of the whole 6.1 to 6.5 adventures in WM...by the time 6.5 OFFICIALLY released to the devices...most of us geekers were already running some form of 6.5.3.

I stayed out of any official updates from Sprint since their stock ROMs have always been somewhat buggy. I decided to stay rooted...and flashed updated radios, kernals, and of course ROMs. Only thing I think I'm missing is 4G...not being in a 4G market really doesn't impact me at all...

of course this doesn't cover those that got their device AFTER the update...and they are in that root waiting game ;)

No, it isn't one bit possible.
1. No dev has that amount of self control. They would rather have the public praise.
2. No dev has a vested interest in preventing us from being stupid.
3. No dev is against the concept of the next challenge.

so a person who did the ota 2.2 cannot downgrade to 2.1, root then flash a rooted froyo rom yet? any eta when this might be able to happen?

From what I have heard no ETA for you guys. And no to the first question. I think some of the problem is all the devs for the most part who would/could make this happen already have rooted phones, so it isn't exactly a priority nomesayin? Could be wrong but that is just my take on why it hasn't happened yet.

Maybe ferrying a copy of the 2.1 update and alerting it so your phone reads it as an UPDATE hence downgrading the firmware I mean what stops us from just getting a copy of 2.1 and that replacing froyo.

so what do people do when they buy the phone from sprint and it comes pre-loaded with froyo? id like to think the devs would work on this. unless they are all jumping ship again to the epic? disgust
