wirless tether on froyo stock rom

ineed some help friends ..
im still using old rom wich it came with evo never done full root only unrevoked 1 im happy with it as long as my wirless tether working . now froyo2.2 have new widget and alot better than old version ijust dont know if ican download new froyo do istill have to do root to let tether applac/work iread some where that version .7 work with out root im not sure just little help please .(noop) thanks
