Question about SD Card?

I have two very noob questions, but i'm new to android and the Evo so don't be too hard on me. First How do I view what I have on my SD Card from my laptop? I mean I plugged in the usb cable from my Evo to my laptop and I was able to access all the contents of my SD Card. But ever since that time I have not been able to. I plug in the cable and nothing pops up to let me access my SD Card. My next question is, is there a way to view the contents of my SD Card from my phone? i'm coming from a touch pro where all you needed to do was go to file explorer click the tab and chose either device or SD Card, and you could view everything that was on your Card. I can't seem to figure this out i've upgraded to 2.2 if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance for any help.
