dont know what froyo is but lets go :drunken: im excited

My suggestion is a clean install, clear everything and start over. Just be prepared back all your stuff up tonight just encase it does drop tomorrow. Its just like windows the "upgrade" just never seems to work.

if i am rooted and do download Froyo does it just over write my root and essentially reset it back to stock?

If you are rooted (the real way not that unrevoked crap) then your best bet is to just wait until the devs make a rooted 2.2 off of it.

Considering its froyo I say they have it by the next day. I'm not talking about having a new root method I'm just talking about someone taking the sprint 2.2 update and making it safe to install keeping root.

I can't believe people are still confused about this...
So, I'm going to do my best to make it abundantly clear.

IF YOU DO THE FROYO OTA, YOU WILL LOSE ROOT ACCESS FOREVER!

Because it hasn't been released/leaked yet, there is no way of telling how hard it will be to crack it. They may be able to bypass whatever Sprint/HTC does and gain root access again, but it's not guaranteed.

Your best bet, if you want to keep root access is to wait. Usually a day or two after the update, the devs release a rooted version of the same rom. Last OTA took about 16hrs to be released as a rooted version. This one won't take long either.
If you decide to do the OTA because it's such an "amazing opportunity to run the Official FROYO release and I couldn't help myself," don't go crying in the rooting thread later that you want to use Wifi tethering and can't.

On that note, this is still great news. Thanks OP. I look forward to running the rooted version of this sometime next week.

Do you think that this update is going to fix the pri version in our rooted phones?

Well its 5:30 and I just checked... no froyo yet. I thinks this was just a false alarm...its not going to happen...I heard December...Sprint is always last.

<Grin>
Just wanted to be the first to post that they checked and it was not here yet.... Here's hoping it shows up tomorrow </Grin>

Why the hell would you do that?:protest:
That "May" is what will cause people to try it and find out the hard way.
You're not the one who had to disable their PM's because of being bombarded by people who did that last OTA and then were stuck not being able to root.](*,)
All because they couldn't wait 1 day to load the rooted version. Fortunately for them, OTA 1.47 was cracked, but that doesn't mean the next one will be. If I'm not mistaken, it took over 2 months to root the Incredible. Most people haven't even had the EVO 2 months yet. So, when the Froyo OTA unroots your phone, you could be stuck for over 2 months.

Yes, there is a good chance that it will be cracked, but the fact remains that it's better to wait for the rooted version than to just do the OTA and assume that eventually there will be a work around.
And yes, there is a very small chance that it will not affect the rooting process at all, but, if you're hoping for that, then you're probably also hoping for Android 3.0 this September.
