unrEVOked 3.0
Thought I'd share this interesting read with yall.....Stolen from xda.
unrevoked link: http://unrevoked.com/#evo I haven't seen a thread about this, and it looks like this method is fairly fresh. I figured I'd give it a try...and it doesn't seem to work. It gets hung up on the "flashing recovery image" part. **Edit** You have to remove HTC Sync AND the drivers that come with it. When I first tried this, I just installed the USB drivers that unrEVOked came. Looks like you have to totally removed anything from HTC before this can work. And yes, it does work. ***If I helped you an any way plz hit THANKS. Original Link: HERE |
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
Can someone post the unrevoked 3.0 apk on here?
For some reason, when i go to the link the unrevoked page comes up with all the htc phones, and when i go to select the EVO, nothing happens, it's like it's stuck on that page for some reason. Thanks in advance fellas..... |

Also, you can go to the xda thread for help, they may already have an answer there. |
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
Yep i keep trying all the night/morning long and finally erased htc sync & htc drivers worked perfectly afterwards ... Say hello to 3g and 4g tethering no issues. Also my sprint hotspot was already working for 4g even when i use the phone hooked up as pc modem but since the phone/signal drops in & out of 4g coverage this is a much better option for me/us...PS3 is will now be used online more often... Can't wait for froyo (fully functional) by sprint or otherwise just hope that i don't have to re root again...but if so we'll be fine...

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
I'm a bit confused here as to what exactly this does. Does this do a similar root as the original one click where all of the apps, games & config of the phone stay put or do I need to reinstall everything/ setup? Does it rewrite the rom to slipstream it in?
I am OTA'ed unfortunately and lost my root like everyone else. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the other root methods. Sorry n00b. |

FIRST in windows 7, go to start menu and use the 'search' feature to find 'htc'. now run the uninstall sync and uninstall htc drivers. you need to uninstall both these before even starting. (also make sure usb debugging is enabled your phone settings>apps>development) now that part is done, leave your phone at the white 'hboot' screen and plugged in to the computer open up the 'evo reflash.exe' file on your computer and it should say 'waiting for device' now on your phone navigate to 'fastboot' (press power button), then navigate to 'reboot' (press power button) the phone will reboot and the evo reflash.exe program 'should' run thereafter. at some point it'll give you instructions to do something in hboot, just do what it says. then your phone will reboot into 'recovery' and at that point it should say 'done' on the evo reflash.exe program from this new screen you can just press power to 'reboot system now' and your phone should now be rooted. |

"now that part is done, leave your phone at the white 'hboot' screen and plugged in to the computer"
How do I get there. I have removed all HTC, placed my phone in Debug mode and have my phone plugged into the PC in Charge Only. I have run the Reflash.exe and it says, waiting for "Waiting for Device..." Don't know where to go from here. |

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
I cannot get unRevoked to see my phone. I know it is USB visible because when I place it in Disk Only, it appears as a drive. Do not know where to go from here.

after your done doing those insructions, you'll be left at the hboot screen w/ your phone plugged into the computer. at this point you can follow the rest of my instructions for him that start at "now that part is done..." |
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
Okay, thanks tool2269,
I will look at it when I get home tonight. |

(let me know if I forgot anything since I only rooted my phone once w/ this..and even that was accidentally) uninstall and delete htc sync and htc drivers from your computer. i have windows 7 and deleted them using the search feature for 'htc' put your phone in debugging (settings>applications>development) http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ go there using your computer download the exe file. run the exe which should install a 'reflash.exe' program and a hboot webpage and some other files (.dll) open the htboot driver webpage and follow the instructions. (very important step...since computer needs this driver to recognize the phone) after thats done you should be at the hboot white screen on your phone while its still connectd to your computer. then click the "reflash.exe" on computer now go to your phone. go to 'fastboot' and press power. then to 'reboot' and press power. phone should reboot and start up.. reflash should then take over soon there after from your computer. if not. just close 'reflash.exe', restart your phone fully, then relaunch reflash.exe |
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
For those who cant get the program to see your phone, you have to be very careful to select the right driver for the phone when you plug it in, you have to choose let me find the driver, and direct it to the folder HBOOT that you downloaded from the web, never allow the computer to automatically find it for you when you are doing something of this nature, it will revert to something else most of the time and the correct driver will not be loaded for the reflash program to identify the EVO.

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
uninstall the driver u have and REBOOT YOUR PC. then install the android drivers provided on the unrevoked 3 website. youll have to install them 2x. once when u 1st plug up the phone to recognize the android adb and again on the hboot part to recognize the bootloader interface. theres a folder called "hboot driver_files" that has directions and pictures to do this properly. follow them. before u start open device manager to see things load up.

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
now, has anyone tried to load a custom rom using this root method? (curious)...

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
So from my understanding is that if I have a Stock 1.47 Non-Rooted EVO and use Unrevoked 3 I will have Full Root or will I only have partial Root (like what unrevoked.apk does.)?
|
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
Does this work if you have a Mac?

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
I have a coulple noob questions. I have applied unrevoked and am again able to tether....but is there any need to hard reset after doing this(like i would do in my old windows mobile days)?
Also in general, would a hard reset require me to re apply the unrevoked process again?. Thanks in advance. |
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
no need to hard reset and erase everything to factory. plus, i think it would probably remove the unrevoked since its a temporary root.
|
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
I was thinking that too....just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

Re: unrEVOked 3.0
Ok i need help with this. I did unrevoked in the beginning then unrevoked 2 with the Ota patch v2. That is when i lost my 4g. It is contantly scanning. So i tried unrevoked 3 to see if it comes back and it still just scans. I wondering if there is anything i can do like remove unrevoked or something. I just want 4g working again.
|
Re: unrEVOked 3.0
I finished rooting using this method. I installed some apps that required root and everything seems to be working okay. I still get 4G where available. I am also tethering using Booboo's method.
Thanks for those that gave me a little dual time. |
