ROM Manager: Missing MD5 file prevents ROM restore

I was screwing around with ROM manager (which I'm new to). I clicked on fix permissions, because I didn't know that does. I though it would give me an option run, but it ran automatically. The only change I noticed was that now all my text messages no longer had the contact's picture (it was replaced with the generic head silhouette).

I assumed it was caused by the permission fix. I wanted to retore my ROM back to before I ran the permissions. When I click on my back up it says "this does not seem to be a valid back up. The MD5 file is missing."

Why does this mean? I though I did the back up properly. Is this a common error?

It's not a big issue, I just don't know if I should use ROM manager if it is unreliable.

Any input on any of this will be helpful (ie. fix permissions, ROM manage, MD5)
