Simple Root

Has anybody used the simple root from @jiqqaman over a xda. I got a buddy of mine who is technology inclined and is in another state he wants his HTC evo rooted I sent him here and had him pull @FastRX8 guide which is what I used to root my phone awesome job by the way on the guide @FastRX8 but he read it and is afraid hes going to not do it right. I was look at xda forums and ran across this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...93&postcount=1
Which seems to me is a simple 1,2,3 process has anybody used it and does it work as simple as 1,2,3 and so easy to do it that a caveman can do it lol. If anybody has any experience in using this program let me know. Before I recommend this to my buddy by the way he has a windows 7 64bit system if that helps. Thank you

Re: Simple Root

I did NOT use it but i have watched the VID 3 times. According to the XDA thread its definitely legit. After watching the vid i recommend it. I Only want free wifi tether so i used Unrevoked (shadowmites "root"). However it doesn't work with the new OTA update(which i haven't done yet). But simple root is probably the easiest way to "full root" with NAND and recovery. It was done on win 7 64 bit. Just watch the vid a few times. Links are on the first post of the xda thread.

is unrevoked the only root method that's disabled by the latest OTA update? are the full root methods, like the simple root, able to work with it?

Re: Simple Root

I looked into SimpleRoot but after running into a few issues I decided to do it the long way. Glad I did, now I feel like I have a better understanding of the rooting process. But, it sounds lefit and many members at xda are reporting success.

unrevoked is not really rooting........it doesn't modify the registry.

Re: Simple Root

I think unrevoked IS the only method that was affected by the OTA. According to the twitter update it says "HTC closed our loop for root and we are currently working on another" (paraphrased).

I think those who had problems were on 32 bit systems, other wise if you follow the simple root vid, it appears you should be good.

I think all are aware that unrevoked is NOT a full root. Then again, ya never know.

Simple root would be the easiest method if it was fool proof.
There seems to be little quirks here and there and some people run into issues.
My newest version of my guide doesn't require a pc (other than to put the files on the storage card). If your friend watches my newest video and reads section 1 & 2 under rooting, he shouldn't have a problem. But please, have him watch the video.
The tutorial is long and intimidating, but once people see the video they see it's actually pretty easy.

Every OTA will break Every Root method.

Ok, that's not entirely true, but it's a very cautious way to approach an OTA sent by Sprint. By now, Sprint and HTC must be aware of what method was used to root the phone. They probably added something to their OTA to make rooting not work anymore.

Your best bet is to always wait a day or two while the developers make a rooted version. That being said, there is a rooted version already. It works fine. It does not break anything. I personally flashed to it myself and tested Nand protection.

Here's the rooted version of today's OTA. -->HERE<--

Re: Simple Root

So the rooted version works for enrevoked, or not, since it's not full root?

Re: Simple Root

I'm waiting for the unrevoked method to be fixed. It is the only method to root that I found that doesn't break the marketplace (some copyrighted apps are unavailable after toasts root).

No clue, sorry. Most of the guys on XDA just tell you to do full root before doing any of their stuff so I don't know if anyone has tried it.

Could you name one? I'm constantly being asked if rooting the phone through toast method breaks anything. I always tell people "No" because I have yet to see or hear of anyone having an issue if they do all the steps correctly.

If there is an issue, I'd like to add that info to the tutorial so that people are aware of it.
Thanks.
