Which means, if you like custom roms or you like Wifi tethering, don't do this update.

Use the rooted version -->HERE<-- or just wait a day or so and there will be tons of info and better options from the devs.
I'm pretty sure everyone knows that major updates will unroot.

Also, XDA has the update rooted already.

But bricking a phone is far more important than losing root.

Re: Warning about Sprint Update!!!

Why would anyone try to install the SAME update twice? Idiots, stupid things happen to stupid people.

Re: Warning about Sprint Update!!!

hey thats actually a good idea if you need to return your phone for an "unknown" reason....Just brick it and take it back, use the double update as an excuse and they have to take it back.

Re: Warning about Sprint Update!!!

Well said OR78, thanks.

So out of curiosity...those that have "bricked" their phones...Were the phones stock, or were they rooted, flashed, etc. That seems to be an important piece of information that isn't mentioned.

If the update is bricking phones that were "modified"...well...that's user error IMO. How can HTC account for what someone else may have changed in their ROM. It is possible for a dev to have made a mistake...hence why you see the disclaimers. Besides if you are rooted...why you would even install this update through OTA is beyond me.

As has already been said...if you are rooted, or care about being able to root later. Just wait and get the update from a new ROM.

the update on xda actually does take away root access, Calkulin was wrong about that. many people flashed that rom and have lost nand access.

edit: nevermind, they found the reason they thought root access was gone.

Ya, you're right. Everyone knows, except for these 2 and the countless other's that did it w/ the 1st OTA and the people starting new threads asking about whether or not it will break root
