One of my co-worker has a Droid and he's been overclocking his to 1.2Ghz with no problem so I don't see it being a problem for the Evo beside draining the hell out of the battery.

shouldn't drain it too badly. The guy said he only had to up it like 35mv...not bad at all. And you can go to 1.19GHz with no voltage increase.

More than likely they have a custom kernel. You cant just overclock on the stock or even the custom roms until someone releases one that has the capability.
