Streaming on Android/Evo

Trying to decide between the EVO and the Iphone thats coming, contract was up June 1st.. weighing options now.

The biggest thing to me is streaming..both Video and Audio.. is this handled well on the EVO?

On my iPhone, I can use the web version of Orb, and have the audio streams pickedup via the quicktime player, it's streamlined and swift.

Is there a similar protocol on the EVO, also what about for those streamed home MP4(and similar) files?

i stream my stuff using orb through the mycast.orb.com site; works fine IMO. there is a orb app but i wasnt too impressed with their free version. maybe the paid version is better? doubtful though.

Does an app on the evo automatically pickup your streams? and Is the media quality acceptable to you?

well the free app only allowed me to watch 3 random tv channels and while it was easier and more stable streaming, the quality wasnt better than going through the mycast site. sometimes going to through the site won't always play audio right away, unless i refresh the stream. i think its something to do with windows 7 or my tv tuner. the quality is better via mycast imo.

i'd say the espn sprint tv channel is only slightly better than watching espn via orb.
btw this is all over 3g. not sure if 4g would make a difference

Re: Streaming on Android/Evo

i don't know about orb, but iPhone has always dominated in the media department hasn't it? If you're willing to suck up AT&T's pricing, data cap, and reception... then perhaps iPhone 4 would be best. Streaming beats up on the battery and the iPhone 4 promises tremendous battery life... and i'm sure you've heard of the EVOs battery issues (even if you have a good one, life is still average).

I use homepipe for audio: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=124903

Most of my movies are in .avi, have not converted them so I'm not sure about video streaming.

Re: Streaming on Android/Evo

Why are you relying on Orb on your iPhone. There are some great apps. I used Air Video on my iPad the quality of the video was so much better than anything I've seen Orb do.
