How's the screen look in sunlight

Before I take the plunge and buy the Evo, can someone tell me if can you read the screen in daylight. I have a Vogue right now and I cant use in daylight so hopefully the Evo is going to be a big improvement over that ??

Re: How's the screen look in sunlight

um i disagree. it is bright yes but i struggle to read it in direct sunlight. i live in the bay area ( just out side of SF) and it was very bright out today. on my lunch i was relaxing on my deck and was attempting to text my buddy. i was squinting and holding my hand up to make a shadow on the phone the whole time.

I can read it in direct sunlight fine. I have auto brightness on. It definitely is harder to see, but it's fine enough for making a call or reading a text or email.

Ditto. I use auto brightness and it's clear enough to navigate. If the sun is blasting straight down at the screen it's going to be hard. But tilting it away a couple degrees solves that problem. I haven't had to find shade or cover my screen yet.

Re: How's the screen look in sunlight

The screen reminded me of my Treo 650, 700p. You can still see the screen and colors but not as much ofcourse when you're under a shade. Comparing to my TP2, the TP2 sucks outside since it's very washed out. But if I'm not mistaken there are 2 types of screen on the EVO? I wouldn't be surprised since that is typical of HTC to use different brand screens. They did it on the Treo, Mogul, Touch Pro and those "other" screens were unreadable under sunlight.

Exactly, you're not going to be watching videos or looking at pictures and be happy while in sunlight but you can atleast use the phone.

Re: How's the screen look in sunlight

Just think, the Incredible has the Oled screen which is worse than the TFT LCD that comes with the Evo in sunlight...so feel better knowing you can atleast see something on your screen...

Re: How's the screen look in sunlight

outdoor visibility sucks but it's better than most phones, especially all the android phones that have AMOLED screens these days. You will still need brightness all the way up though or autobrightness set.
