Re: Info on nand backup and sprint bloatware
In all honesty the easiest way is to root and then flash a custom ROM that has the bloatware already removed. Then install all your apps, setup all your email accounts, ringers, homescreen, etc, then do a NAND backup. Then, if anything happens, you can do a NAND restore and be back up and running in no time.
You could try using Root Explorer (or a similar app) to manually remove the Sprint crap, but you may run into issues. That and all the custom ROMs already have good battery and other tweaks to make them run better than stock, IMHO.

backing up a rom is just that.. a backup. if you mess up by flashing a new custom rom.. just restore your 'backup' you can have many different backups, so you can pretty much 'restore' back to any 'backup' rom you want. they're stored on your memory card either under clockworkmod or nandroid folders (depending on the recovery your using) i recommending renaming them to something you can remember because if you just rename them by date it'll confuse you as to which rom it is. i THINK some apps (.apks) can be moved out of the system/apps folder using the root mode from estrongs file manager. some roms already have sprint bloatware removed for you.

I think about a week ago or so. It's the latest official sprint rom, and I would assume you can get it OTA if you choose to allow updates to your phone. There are plenty of custom roms already out with this release, so no need to go lock up your phone to get the latest version.

Absolutely. Do a NAND backup before you flash a custom ROM and you can go back like you never changed. I have multiple NAND backups of different ROMs that I can bounce back and forth between. You can flash and run a ROM for a day and if you don't like it, be back up and running within 5 minutes exactly where you were before the flash.

Backup & Rooting Questions
Ok, I got an EVO yesterday and read hundreds of posts here and over at XDA.
First of all, I can't seem to root this thing. I followed this guide from XDA, but unrevoked3 doesn't work for some reason. I tried after the Android 2.1 downgrade and from 2.2 with no other changes. I get a "triumph" message, but the HBOOT doesn't unlock and there is no recovery image after it completes. I've tried the 3.14 used in the post, and I've tried the newest 3.21 version. What am I doing wrong? I've tried on a Windows 7 PC and a Mac. Same results. Secondly, I'm looking for the best/easiest way to fully backup my EVO settings and programs. I went ahead and purchased MyBackup Pro at the suggestion of several people here. After my failures yesterday with rooting, I went back to 2.2 and went to restore everything from MyBackup Pro. First of all, it takes forever. It backed up all 500+ Facebook contacts and all 900+ e-mails. Is this necessary since my e-mail is IMAP and my contacts would be downloaded after I log into Facebook? It did NOT backup or perhaps restore my Facebook or Twitter log-ins, or my multiple e-mail accounts and their settings. The only things it restored were the contacts, SMS, call log, and applications. It did restore my Sense Scenes, but when I clicked on the custom one I had spent a lot of time making (and did save), all of the pages were blank!! I've just come from a very good experience with a Touch Pro2 and Energy ROM. I had that thing setup with XDA_UC to full provision the phone after each ROM flash. It was perfect. I'm looking for the same kind of backup/restore here. Does MyBackup Pro do more once the phone is rooted? I've used Sprite Backup for Windows Mobile, and that was very good. I read that it sucks for Android and the EVO. Is that true or is that better these days? Any suggestions?

Re: Info on nand backup and sprint bloatware
I recommend the app Rom Manager. I found this to be an easy way to backup, flash, restore, rename and delete Roms on the go. Some chefs even have their roms linked to ROM manager so you can download and flash the rom right from within the app.
Also get Titanium backup. That program backs up all your apps and settings, that way if you flash to a similarly based ROM, like one custom sense to another custom sense, you can restore your apps and all your settings like email and ringtones and such.
