Ive actually noticed that i have to slow down when typing on this device. I'm not accurate, but the auto correct gets the correct word 95% of the time. When I go too fast I lose a letter or two which is kind of annoying. I was hoping the capacitive would make it so that could never happen.

my typing is all effed up .. i like fast text input .... the constant issue with correcting it is driving me nuts .... although i must admit the rest of the phone seems great . except my gmail app forcing shut every single time

wow guys calm down you have to get to learn the keyboard and you will be the shit soon. The phone is only a day old, once you get used to it you will be able to type fast, it's just like with the mogul i had to learn to type, then the touch pro, and the touch pro 2....it's a learning curve.

I think the android keyboard is the shit and i've had almost every phone out there. By far the best.

To the guy about the auto correction it will learn words that you commonly use, it works great whenever you start typing really fast because it helps correct the word if u accidentally hit the wrong key that way you dont have to stop and go back.

Trust me once you get the hold of it you will love it

I agree, great to see you Mystery! Been a while. thing I like the best is the good old compact qwerty is also available under settings>language & keyboard>touch input>keyboard types. portrait is golden now for me! plus landscape switches to full qwerty which I am getting used to as well.

Swype is really cool, but if that isn't your thing try smart keyboard pro. My main problem with the stock keyboard is that with the long press to get the secondary input option, it has to be a really long press. I'm used to finger keyboard coming from the diamond. Smart Keyboard Pro has a slightly faster long press, but not as fast as I'd like it.

I totally agree, but I'd urge everyone to try it. It might look intimidating or complicated, but once you learn how to use it most people never look back.

Swype is a good alternative, but strangely enough I almost find the EVO screen too big for Swype. Also, using it with one hand, I find myself accidentally hitting the home, back or search button. But it is a good alternative to pecking.
As someone else mentioned, I can't help but wonder why the keyboard is not multitouch enabled. The most common problem I have while thumbing away is one thumb typing a key that is not registered because the other is not off the screen yet.
I've really been trying, but especially in landscape, I still find myself yearning for the TP2 keyboard. It is just such a nice kbd, and with it not on the screen, I can reference the text that I'm responding to.
