EVO quantities

So there must be a shit ton of these phones if people all over the country are pre ordering from best buy and radio shack. Im sure Sprint has there own supply.

Being one of the many who pre ordered, I am now wondering why I even did. If there are that many, why bother. Apple produced millions of iphones for their initial launch and still ran out. Unfortunately, there arent that many folks like us around to get this thing to sell out. Hype over under-exaggerated inventories perhaps?

Yep..... this phone will not sell out . It will do well though , but millions like iphone , I think not.

Re: EVO quantities

I am thinking it will sell out because I am sure they ordered significantly less than say Apple and AT&T would with the iPhone. They just don't have the cash flow or credit to do millions of units... Hmm that is all conjecture and I could be talking sideways out of my a$& but I am going with my gut here

of course it will sell out. when's the last time you saw a non-Apple phone launch in high quantities on the first day? it just doens't happen.

Even as recent as today ....people are reporting going into BB and RS all over the country and being a single-digit pre-order number.

This hype for this phone is about a 6 out of 10
The hype for the Iphone was about a 12 out of 10

Re: EVO quantities

I think its because HTC is more of an enthusiast brand and the iphone is more of a "hip" phone. Maybe HTC should take out the ability to make calls. That would boost sales!

Bingo. I am even having second thoughts on not getting one. I may pick one up on launch day and try it to see if it's worth the extra 10 bucks a month. Just found out my wife's employer gets a 15% discount on the bill so that would certainly make up the difference with the EVO fee.

We'll see.....the new one looks fairly impressive. It took 5 yrs to catch up and they are still new on the phone game. Hopefully this will force HTC to stop using the same hardware for so long.

I visited Best Buy this afternoon to ask what number I was on the pre-order list. Our BB is going to get only 5 phones on launch day....the people who pre-ordered by 5/21.

He said our local Sprint store is getting maybe 60 - 70 phones.

I just remember that the T-Mobile HD2 sold out the first week nationwide so I think the EVO will too.

I personally hope everyone in my area that may be getting the phone flocks to BB or RS. I will be going to Sprint 1st because I am paying full price, BB second if its sold out at Sprint because the BB is about 3 blocks away and RS last, I got a friend who works there and illl just tell her to hold one for me.

I have a strong feeling that even if I dont go to get it the 1st day, that I wont have a problem finding one on the Saturday.

Plus if they do sell out, the 2nd batch might have Froyo. Or the 3rd batch.....

I'd already thought about that, but was trying not to think about that, and now you've me rethink thinking about that.

I wouldnt hold my breath on that one. Even if Sprint and HTC do come out with 2.2 in a timely manner, I would think they wouldnt be quick to throw it to the masses while the phone is still selling like hotcakes (if it sells that good) when they could hold on to it for a while until sales slow down some and then release it as a Evo with a new lease on life just to get the sales to pick up again.

It only makes sense from a business and marketing aspect.

that doesnt mean much, they are just retarded. I went with radioshack too and they had a stack of preorders filled out when i got mine. BUT the best buy here doesnt sell sprint in store so that could be a reason people flocked to RS or sprint store

Re: EVO quantities

this phone will sell out in most if not all areas. all the best buys in my area (im by detroit, and have them all over) are filled on the "guaranteed on the 4th" orders. any preorders placed now you might be lucky and get the phone the 4th but could be waiting up to 14 days. was going to preorder today and this is what i got from the few closest stores to me. instead im going to get to the sprint store extra early and pay the extra $100, then wait for my mir. i wasnt paying for the phone anyways i was going to sell my tp2 as soon as i got my evo to recover most if not all of the cost on it.

gaudet41 05-25-2010 08:54 AM

Re: EVO quantities

In my area it is the opposite. The 2 best buys that are very close to me are no longer taking pre-orders for June 4th. One best buy told me flat out they aren't taking pre-orders and the other one told me they are taking pre-orders but only for June 9th and not the 4th! The 2 radio shacks I called both were still taking pre-orders. The one in Boston that I pre-ordered mine from told me they had about 15 pre-orders so far and will only be ordering about 4-5 extra phones on top of the pre-orders. So to me, at least in my area (Boston, MA) the Evo will definitely sell out on June 4th.

Re: EVO quantities

I live in a small city in central Ohio and I was very very surprised to hear the girl at RS say that I was 11th on the list yesterday. I expected to still be the first to come in. Needless to say, that many people knowing about it in a small city can only say good things about what's going to happen on the 4th.

S Sprint Nextel management conference call takeaways - FBR Capital (4.79 )

FBR Capital notes, On May 24, it held a conference call with Matt Carter, president of the Sprint 4G group, and Iyad Tarazi, vice president of network development and engineering. Firm came away from the call encouraged by on multiple fronts including the co's 4G network strategy and potential to lower its cost structure and churn-a major investor focus. Pre-registrations for the HTC EVO 4G device are the highest for any device in the co's history and Sprint is "more pleased" with the ratio of new prospects, particularly from existing iPhone customers. FBR estimates close to 1 mln registrations to date and a 70% to 75% upgrade ratio, which is encouraging.

people these days are glued to the computer and the internet/mobile devices. word of mouth sells more than any print ad or tv commercial. i dont even watch TV and i knew about the EVO nearly 8 months ago now. sprint does not need to waste time and money on commercials now in the tivo/DVR era most folks skip over commercials... better to spend that money on the 4g build-out and making sure they have plenty evos in circulation..

we are all early adopters of this handset and those geeks get their info not from TV but from word of mouth and the internet...

Only thing to remember here is that what is good for investors is not necessarily good for customers. As an investor you want to see the company raise its selling prices to the highest possible without losing customers. As a customer you want to see lowest prices possible regardless of the results the low prices would have on the company's bottom line.

The main piece of info that is encouraging from sprint as an investor, aside from the high volume of pre-orders is the extra monthly fee these phones will come with. This is much needed added revenue in a competitive industry.

Interestingly enough, it's in a class that isn't capable of playing an MP3...and it's ugly (IMO).

a class all its own because mindless people use it, but the nexus or any highend android with froyo kills iphone. there is nothing iphone can come out with this year that will blow any minds away

I wouldn't say we're "smarter" than the average iPhone user per se, but most of them are in fact simple minded, and therefore enjoy a simple device.

Re: EVO quantities

It's all speculation right now on weather or not the Evo 4G will sell out or not on June 4th, but I do feel Sprint/HTC did think this through a bit better than other companys when it comes to stock. We the consumers waited, and waited for along time to hear when they were planning on releasing the phone....which gave them time to build up stock...but then again it's really a crap shoot weather it will be enough. Until June 4th we won't know.

The Iphone is in a class of its own, comparing the Evo 4G to the Iphone is stupid...2 different phones, way different specs...and OS. I've always found it fustrating when youtube videos pop up and people are comparing those two phones...there is no comparison at all. The Evo has way more advanced technology in it, better specs and a way better screen, how does that make an Iphone the same? I don't know...

I for one won't be getting my Evo 4G on launch day, or any time near it because I don't have my 1 year upgrade till August 1st, so I'm hoping by then the hype will die down a bit, Evo's will be semi in stock and I will be able to snatch one up then. Plus by then any little issues the phone has may it be hardware, shell, or software will be tweaked for the better.

But for those getting it in 2 weeks, have fun...enjoy because I will tell you from hands on experience with the Evo 4G, you will fall in love and never want another phone again.

aman1127 05-25-2010 05:06 PM

Re: EVO quantities

The trouble is, we are used to having old hardware. Apple at least updates their hardware. And remember, we are comparing our new super phone to their 1 year old phone. So who knows if anyone will be a winner in this.
