2.1 unroot

So now that the hero has 2.1, does that mean that we are 2 weeks ahead in work towards a root that would work on the EVO? That would be killer!

Yes should be.

Re: 2.1 unroot

Sorta....

HERO does have 2.1.... But the phone is not the same....It will still not be the same process to root the EVO as used with the HERO....

But it is a step in the right direction

I know NOTHING about rooting, but I am hoping it would give whoever's responsible for rooting some basic ideas on how to approach Evo

Re: 2.1 unroot

New to Android, what would we gain from rooting an EVO? Stripped ROMS? Making them faster?

Re: 2.1 unroot

From what I've read, I think all Android phones can be rooted the same way. It's just a matter of being able to restore the image.

Nobody is "responsible" for it...it's not anybody's job...it will get done when someone who knows how to figure it out, wants to figure it out, and then succeeds in figuring it out, and hopefully shares what to do with everyone else. It's a little rude to even think it's someone's responsibility though.

If you are comming from WinMo have you used Custom Roms before? This is about the same, allows for the removal of the bloat and addition of software that unlocks other features like using the wifi as a router and such. things that are not used or allowed on a non Rooted or hacked phone. Again that is just the basics. Others may be able to assist furhter.

Didn't mean to come across sounding like "Whoever's job to do it" but more of "whoever's been doing it so far". For example, the HardSPL for WinMo phones are usually done by same group of people. Same thing for Android I guess. I am sure you understood what I meant.
